BS: Intensologist? What's that?

Email from my cousin... "The next move is to remove the breathing tube\respirator. This is the responsibility of the intensologist..."

Any ideas what he meant to say?

Your cousin probably means to say intensivist.

Intensivists are physicians who work in the Intensive Care Unit and are often trained in pulmonary care.

The intensivist would likely make the decision concerning the tube and ventilator.

Thanks Dave! That's where my cous is.... brain tumour removal didn't go so well.

Cell phones kill, no matter what the studies haven't shown yet.

Thanks on his behalf. He'll pull thru... doc says there's a good chance within a few days to a few months for a full recovery from the seizures and paralysis as long as he doesn't have any more seizures.

The last tumour was against the base of his brain, the size of an orange, and blew up all over the OR when the doc cut into it. Use your cell phones sparingly eh... no matter what the "studies" show or don't show.

My tumour was caught in "DUE" time almost by mistake as it became apparent just before (the very day!) I went to see my doc about something else... lucked out by having it removed within 5 weeks after I noticed it.

gnu, I've been wondering about that too. I recently started using a cell phone and I'd feel better about it if I used a hands-free attachment. Haven't done it yet, though.

Since a very high proportion of its population in Japan started using cell phones a long while before the those in the west did, I imagine any demonstrable ill effects will show up over there first? When was the technology developed and gotten into the hands of millions? About 20 years later one might expect observable effects- nicht wahr?

Ignoring studies and avoiding things that may or may not harm you is a pretty good prescription for both longevity and paranoia

Now, about cell phones:

Yesterday I left the public library and encountered a woman just outside. She had two small children, and the two small children were each carrying an ice-cream concoction with great mess potential.

They were all crossing a parking lot where cars were in motion.

Her cell phone rang. She said, "It's Daddy. I have to talk to him."

Just what she needs! Another thing to do while shepherding small children among moving vehicles. But she's a modern woman, so she's supposed to be all things to all people.

When people ask me for my cell phone number, I tell them I don't have one, that I'm still running around without a collar. That gets a laugh from women and a look of confusion from men.
