06 Jul 11 - 07:08 PM (#3182690) Subject: Tech: Convert 3-jpeg>1jpg>pdf photo file? From: katlaughing I am working on submitting front, back and spine artwork for my 2004 book, WindWords of Wyoming, to sell at Amazon's CreateSpace, as well as at CafePress, where I have always done. Cafepress wanted three separate jpgs files for the back, front covers and spine, no problem. I've had them for years. CS wants one jpg with back, spine, and cover converted into a pdf file. I have Photoshop 7.0 and PDF Creator version 0.9.6. I *think* I have figured out how to convert jpgs through the print to file command, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember how to merge photos into one in Photoshop. Plus, the sizes I have for CP, which is the same size book as the one I am creating at CS, do not fit their stupid template I downloaded. According to their guidelines, the min. width cover should be 10.266" and the min. height should be 8.25. That includes a bleed to the edges. That's what I have, I thought, but, as I said, it's not matching up to their template. I don't have to use the template, though, so maybe that's not as important. Would/could any of you explain how to get all three jpgs into one, please? I think I can take it from there. (This is what comes of not using Photoshop for such things since 2004!:-) (Apparently, I am not the only one who finds CS's guidelines confusing and convoluted. I searched through a lot of their help forum without finding any definitive answers. Did send a PM to one guy who said it's easy to get pdf file ready for them and would do it for ten bucks, but he never answered me. The good news is my interior text pdf has been accepted by their system!) Thanks a bunch! kat |

From: michaelr kat, I think I can walk you through this, but it'll have to be tomorrow, because I have to leave for rehearsal in a few minutes. Basically it involves creating a new canvas the size of your finished artwork, and then moving the pieces into it. Once you've got that, you can save it as a jpeg. |

The Creative Suite release is up to 5 now. Are you trying to create the flat cover of the book that includes the front, back, and spine, all in one file? And that is what needs to be saved as a PDF? That is an easy thing to do, but do you have access to Adobe InDesign? It will let you do that moving around and angle stuff a little more fluidly than Photoshop (though Photoshop will do it.) Like Michael, I'm at the end of a long day, headed for bed, so I'm not going to stir the brain enough to describe this. But it is do-able. Tomorrow I'm tied up at the library most of the morning and early afternoon, but if you haven't sorted it out by late afternoon, I can take a look at it with you. Maggie |

The information offered is usually suspect. Kat, sorry I didn't get back to you, I've been swamped, and have to go in tomorrow to finish inventory. In the afternoon I'll come up for air. SRS |
