13 Jul 11 - 12:44 PM (#3186795) Subject: Deeside Sessions 2011 From: GUEST,kenny "THE DEESIDE SESSIONS" - 2011 This is the 3rd year in which the "Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms" organisation, supported by Aberdeenshire Council, have joined forces to instigate a series of informal sessions of traditional Scottish music in several venues located along the valley of the River Dee. 18 events have been planned, between 21st July and the 29th of September. Every one of these sessions will be "hosted" by at least 2 top traditional Scottish players - [ including, on some nights, fiddler Paul Anderson, possibly the greatest exponent of the fiddle styles of the North-East of Scotland ]. All of the sessions are open to any visiting or local musicians to come along and join in. Everyone, of course, is very welcome to come along and listen. July sessions are : Thursday 21st : Loch Kinord Hotel, Ballater Road, Dinnet, Aberdeenshire AB34 5JY Venue phone number : 013398 85229 Wednesday 27th : Potarch Hotel, Potarch, by Banchory AB31 4BD Venue phone number : 013398 84339 Thursday 28th : Coilacreich Inn, by Ballater AB35 5UH Venue phone number : 013397 55377 All sessions start at 8.00pm, finishing 11.00pm. I'll add the rest to this thread nearer the time, but if anyone has any queries, ask here, and I'll do my best to answer them. Hope to meet some of you if you happen to be in the area. |

19 Jul 11 - 02:50 PM (#3190847) Subject: RE: Deeside Sessions 2011 From: GUEST,kenny A mixture of both, depending on who turns up. As far as I know at the moment, most of the sessions will be hosted by instrumentalists. I should have more information on this by Friday, and will post it here when it becomes relevant. The emphasis will probably be on tunes rather than songs, but that does not mean that singers will not be welcome - the sessions are open to all. |
