Give him is voice back and he'll probably run for office. Not that that's a bad thing...for Kendall.

The story says it's "tunable" -- Kendall could turn out to be a soprano.

Excellent article.

I also could not help but be intrigued by this paragraph:

"In a paper published earlier this year, researchers tested the new injectable gel on dogs' vocal folds. On high-speed video, their vocal folds vibrated normally, with no safety problems."

This has potential for the continuing story of the shaggy dog who goes into the bar and...

"shaggy dog who goes into the bar and..."

The dog says to the doctor, "Will I be able to sing after the operation."
The Doctor says "Of course!"
The dog says "Good, because I always wanted to be able to sing."

Excellent article kendall. It reminds me of your story. Who is that handsome man being examined in the picture?

Great article but somebody should shoot the photographer. Both you and the doctor look equally old and decrepit. I don't know how this is going to go over with the Groupies, Captain...

"Old and decrepit"??? Surely not! How about "Mature and distinguished" .... or something like that.

In any case, I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed! What's the timeline on the treatment?

Incredible news, it would be soooo amazing to have your voice back! Say, Kendall, are you in the test group, or rather wait for others to see if there are unforeseen problems that didn't occur with the dogs?

Absolutely amazing... I LOVE it when things that used to be in the domain of fantasy and science-fiction novels are now becoming realities.

Kendall, I wish you all the best, and I will be praying that you not only get your voice back, but become a symbol of hope for anyone who has met struggles with dignity.

I can't imagine what I would do if I lost my voice... being able to speak and sing are foundational to who I am as a person and as a performer.

My fervent prayer is that you will not only return, but flourish.

I understood Doctor Zeitels to say that I am scheduled for the first trials. I told him that my insurance company probably won't pay for this because it is experimental. He said "We are going to do it anyway."

Kendall,

Good luck Kendall. It sounds like you are in good hands. I'd like to share the article with my son who aspires to be a bioengineer. He will be a senior in high school and will be applying to colleges with bio-physics and bio-engineering programs. Although exposed to traditional music his entire life he has never caught the bug. Oh well.

Take care.

Kendall, it's great news that you're scheduled for the first trials (that is, if you WANT to be among the first guinea pigs).   (Let's hope they give you the right type of gel, so you don't end up sounding like a Dachshund or St. Bernard.)

It's wonderful that the doc says they'll 'do' you even though you don't have insurance, too.

I hope everything comes out -- er, goes IN -- OK.

SINS... "Both you and the doctor look equally old and decrepit."

Well, YOU ever shove one them things up someone's nose or had one shoved up yer nose? I have had that rigginfriggin shoved up my nose and down my gullet what seemed like far enough to look out the other end FAR too many times and I'll bet a pic of me at that point wouldna be the best. But I thought the old salt looked fine.

BTW... I am clear and free for six months as of last Monday. AND, I didn't gag when she shoved the scope in so I AM gonna be okay. Never hold a high note again but that's small potatoes.

I just don't want to sound like Julie Andrews.

Some years ago a large woolen mill complex in Germany went under and a world famous dog breeder bought the whole works. He bred, trained and sold a special breed of hunting dog, and his business became so successful that it even made the headlines in the local newspaper. It read:

THE MILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE HOUNDS OF MUNICH.

Today in the five o'clock hour of our local ABC Eyewitness News, there was a story about Dr. Zeitels and the work he's doing, particularly mentioning his treatment of Tom Hamilton (of Aerosmith) who had tongue and throat cancer.

Absolutely fascinating. And extremely encouraging.
