very sorry to hear of the death of Stuart, powerful vocalist, mandolin and banjo player with The Dalesmen.
A fine musician and a great bloke.
Good times we had, mate.

RIP bonny lad

Heard the sad news yesterday of Stuart's passing on. I was a friend of his since we were 10 years old although I have lived away from Brierfield since 1976. We played together from 1970 to 1976 as The Dalesmen with Big Frank (Barney) and Phil Wilson and later with Dennis Warhurst in Grimalkin. Stu was so very passionate about his music and played from his heart.

He was a man with a really big heart and as honest, sensitive and straight spoken a man that ever was. He brightened up some dark moments of my life with his great sense of humour and his cheery grin.

you have left a deep void in my world Stu - who knows - we may meet up..........

Sleep well old friend.

Happy memories of bygone days- "Grimalkin" "Thje Dalesmen", best singer of "Bogie's Bonnie Bell", a cheerful, musical soul. We all enjoyed his music and his company at the Brierfield Wagon and Horses Folk Club and Burnley Folk Club. God bless.

...and, of course, Stuart's "Old Man's Tale"- unsurpassed. The mumming plays, (Little Devil Doubt. Such a lively, true musician.

Alex "s?", 'tis Pete and Yours truly. Should have signed in, I guess but followed the link from Dave B's fb.

Does anyone have contact email / address for Barney - Big Frank? If they do, can they send email to me on 'david_m_baker@tiscali.co.uk' please?

I enjoyed the session at the Kettledrum - you have a good place and some very good performers. It may be a long time before I get back up to the Pendle region but I will keep fond memories of that Friday in August.

Please keep in contact via Facebook guys.

Thanks

Dave

Only just stumbled across these messages after trying to search for some video footage of one of dad's performances. Can I thank those on here for their kind words, he was a wonderful man; my hero. You'll never be forgotten dad.

And if anyone (perchance) has any footage of The Dalesmen, it would be greatly appreciated if it could be passed on. Thanks
