06 Aug 11 - 09:27 AM (#3202618) Subject: Whitby 2011 Singarounds From: Joe Nicholson This year will be the 25th time Maureen and I have run the evening singaround at Whitby the one that Malcolmm Story called The Marathon Singaround. We began of course in Sam Smiths pub 'The Plough' but since our eviction we have been made very welcome in 'The Rifle Club' for which we have been very grateful. We start at 8-oclock every night, everyone is welcome Singers,Musicians, Poets and Children (with Mum and or Dad)and of course people who just want to come and listen and maybe join in the choruses. Anything goes Folk, Country,Blues, when it's your spot you do what you like. The only rule is hush when the turns on. It is free but there is a no-obligatory collection box for the convenience of anyone who has a bob or two to spare. We go round the room anti-clockwise (because time is our only enemy). The first song is as it always has been 'Chickens in the Garden' why? because it is a damned good chorus song particularly significant this year because we learned it from the singing of Mike Waterson and when we have sung it we shall drink a toast to Mike.
