For a moment there I thought you were sponsoring it and it had become the 'Dick Miles Saltburn Festival' - a bit like the Barclays Premier League

It is a premier festival, but, unfortunately I cannot afford to sponsor it, they are kindly sponsoring me to perform at the festival.
Nick are you the Devils Advocate.

Two threads on the go at the minute - but on the ships in the night theme - I met someone I hadn't seen before - and I've been around the folk scene well over 40 Years. His fans couldn't believe it when I said I hadn't met him but I had the pleasure onf introducing him ( as I was the MC ). Knocked out by his performance - Steve Tilson.
This ranks with meeting El Greko . Great weekend and look out for JRP who are fabulous sound providers.
Great other performances from people I'd seen before.
Padge looks great after his heart op , Glennwas his usual happy self - and I thoroughly enjoyed myself all weekend

traditional singers competition .....Julia XXXXXX from Malvern Worcester Arghhh I can't remember her Surname forgive me I also had to remember to introduce " Mrs Vera Ryder the chair of Saltburn , Marske , and New Marske Parish Council" who presented the trophy and the cheque so I'm afraid my head was a bit "overloaded".
Anyway Julia put me out of my misery Julia , Padge or Glenn - she is a lovely singer and a popular winner.

The fantastic Reg Meuross did an excellent night at Stockton Folk Club at the Sun Inn on the Monday 15th August, the night after Saltburn Festival. Julia sang some lovely songs as one of the floor singers and I missed her surname, does anyone know it. I took a photo (I did ask her husband if it was OK) and would like to put her full name to it.

Thanks Drumshanty for putting me out of my misery and many apologies again to Julia - I DID have a lot on my mind at the time I was introducing her - and I agree - she is a lovely singer.
I PM'd Padgett but I expect he's giving it "Rock all" at Whitby and not looked at his PC.

Nice singer at Clecky I saw was Lucy Ward from Derbyshire, with resplendent cloured hair, but very lively trad and other songs

Ken and Marion Hall, Kev and Sandra Hall and Arthur Marsden and Dave and Ann Howdon continue to work hard at both Saltburn and Whitby ffs
and two of em with heart bypasses, hope it aint a necessity/prerequirement

We have just returned from Fylde. Julia is up at the shops collecting her Freds with the added engravings. She is appearing at Bromyard Folk Festival as part of the "Ancient Legacy" folk play with other local performers Saturday lunchtime.

We remember Fred appearng at Bromyard in the early 1980s

LYDIA NOBLE won the Fred Jordan cup at Bromyard, so women singers are doing the business.

The Fred Jordan trophy is a set of horse brasses and is for an unaccompanied song from the under 25s. Lydia Noble was outstanding in a very good field of 10. She sang a song she learnt from her father about stone walling, the job she also learnt from her father. Perhaps she should be offered a combined traditional craft and singing spot at Saltburn!

We have have been collecting anecdotes about Fred from our friends who had invited him to their folk clubs, or knew him in Shrewsbury. It has strange being in the final sing at Bromyard where we remember (in the 1980s) Fred always singing the penultimate song, the final song being Amazing Grace by a Robbie from Cheltenham.

Thanks Colin and Julia for your recollections, I remember Robbie, I believe he was Robbie McGregor a real character, I believe he spent a lot of time teaching children in Cheltenham how to morris dance.
I remember playing clubs in that part of Gloucestershire and Robbie was often there. RIP Robbie
