Lyr Req: Scandinavian song Hilda

Hi, Gang!... it has been since "Dinosaurs were King!'... since I was here at Mudcat... I've really got to get my life back, and step back and enjoy this great site again... I still entertain at Nursing Homes, and jam with friends who are mostly the Bluegrass or old Country types, but as I still am "Gary, of the Odd Song!" to them, I'd like to continue to come up with unusual songs that reflect my own heritage and interests....

There is an old Scandinavian dialect song that I sang in my youth, which I've long lost the lyrics and source for.... I can't find it by typing in "Hilda" lyrics on Google, it's not in DT, and I'm stumped.... however, in the past you've always come through in a pinch... If I can't find it here, it likely can't be found...

I only have one musical talent, that is I remember the melodies to just about every song I've ever heard, but without the lyrics written in front of me I'm woefully lacking. So, I can do it with your help... the piece I remember is:

"Hilda, oh Hilda, you are so grand"... and the singer asks her if she loves him, too....

the response is "Yah, sure you betcha, I surely love you!"

TAke care all!... thanks for any help!    Gary

Hi, Gary. A few questions.

1) how dialectical
2) about when did you hear it first (year?)
3) where did you hear it/learn it (country)
4) can't remember #4

Well I know of a few performers who used Scandinavian dialect humor:

Hjalmar Peterson, who performed as Olle i Skratthult

Ernest and Clarence Iverson, who performed as Slim Jim and the Vagabond Kid

Harry Stewart, who sometimes performed as Yogi Yorgesson (He had other ethnic personas as well.)

Stan Boreson

--but offhand, I don't recognize the song you quoted, and I don't know of any songs called "Hilda" or "Hulda" (as it might be spelled).

You might try following the links to view discographies for those performers, in case something looks familiar.

I grew up in Ballard, there where a lot of Scandia music played, I do remember a Hilda song, our next door neighbor name was Hilda, so we sang it a lot,   Im sure that Stan Boreson had sang it ,on a local Scandinavian TV program in the early 50's

I am trying to find the lyrics also. What I remember from memory is as follows

Hilda, oh Hilda I do think your grand,
Oh will ya, oh will ya , will you hold my hand,
And if you should ask do you love me true,
Sing ya sure ya betcha I sure think I do,

Yes I do, oh I do
By golly, by yimmny, I sure think I do,
And if I should ask you, do you love me true,
Sing ya sure, ya betcha, I sure tink I do

In Wisconsin, Ole Jonsen,
Met a sweet lass ???????????
Her name Hilda Swensen
He wooed her, he pursued
Now Jonsen and Swensen ????????

This how I remember it but I can't remember if they are the right lyrics. Hope this helps
