13 Aug 11 - 11:11 AM (#3207266) Subject: RE: best singaround From: Nick The Middle Bar has less background noise. The Endeavour has more background noise. The Middle Bar has a narrower audience. The Endeavour has a wider audience. |

13 Aug 11 - 06:37 PM (#3207523) Subject: RE: best singaround From: gnomad Hmmm...half a mile to one, 338 miles (per Google) to the other, and both have a good reputation. I'm not too fond of travelling. I'll go to the local one. Well, criteria for the "best" label are not specified. Doubtless your mileage will vary. |

13 Aug 11 - 09:56 PM (#3207617) Subject: RE: best singaround From: Joe Offer I go to a singaround one Sunday afternoon a month in Auburn, California. It's a town too small to gather a singaround, but people come from as far as sixty miles away. We usually have eight to ten singers, usually unaccompanied except for one singer who uses a ukulele or concertina. The group is totally unpretentious, and absolutely delightful. Over three years, we've formed a tight bond, and it has been a wonderful experience. -Joe- |

14 Aug 11 - 04:16 AM (#3207697) Subject: RE: best singaround From: GUEST,mg Not me..I would go to the best one...depending on the definition...but for me the definition would be prettiest music. For others it could be the most turns per person, or the most social experience or the most scholarly or any number of other variables. To each her own. mg |

14 Aug 11 - 04:50 AM (#3207709) Subject: RE: best singaround From: Alan Day Like all sessions it mostly depends on who turns up.One fantastic singer,or even a song can swing the evening to a great one.If the main quality of artists turn up every time than that normally creates a consistently good session. 14 Aug 11 - 04:54 AM (#3207711) Subject: RE: best singaround From: MartinRyan GUESTmg To each her own Absolutely! My point was that, FOR ME, singing sessions (the nearest Irish equivalent to "singarounds") represent an important part of a living tradition. If one session came to be regarded as in any way consistently "the best", it would suggest a dying tradition - in which I, for one, would have little interest. Regards |

14 Aug 11 - 05:50 AM (#3207733) Subject: RE: best singaround From: GUEST,Jim Knowledge I `ad that Alan Day in my cab the other day. `e was browsing through some print outs of that MUDCAT forum all about the best singarounds. `e said, "`ere Jim, you and your lot `ave done all the clubs, sessions and singarounds `aintcher. What do you reckon on that "The Rising Sun" at Charlwood?. One of the best?" I said, "Yeah, I`ll go along with that Alan. Gatesey and all the rest of `em. But I know a better SING-A-ROUND". `e said, "Do you? Where`s that?". I said, "Any pub where Deano gets up and sings " Four pints of Harveys and two of Adnams please" to the barman to the tune of The Barley Mow!!" Whaddam I Like?? |
