21 Aug 11 - 10:09 PM (#3210635) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. Try not to feel like a failure - there's always next year. (Is the duck race anything like the lizard people?) |

21 Aug 11 - 10:20 PM (#3210640) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: GUEST,leeneia Congratulations. We have a duck race too: "(Kansas City) After a three year absence, the ever popular Duck Derby returns to Kansas City on Sunday, June 29, 2008. Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will be racing down Brush Creek on the Country Club Plaza. The fun-filled family event is sponsored by RED Development and is benefiting the Children's Therapeutic Learning Center, an accredited preschool serving children with developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs since 1947." Was your race something like that, or did you yourself race against an actual duck? If so, second place may not be that big a deal. (Just joking!) |
21 Aug 11 - 10:57 PM (#3210656) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. At least it wasn't duck wrestling - cruel and unnecessary, and it's high time they banned it. |

22 Aug 11 - 03:21 AM (#3210729) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Big Al Whittle They were never going to let an Englishman win that one. You duck had been tampered with. The days of the great duck tampering scandals are over in most other places. |

22 Aug 11 - 03:14 PM (#3211023) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Big Al Whittle most plastic ducks are, as you say, of good character and couldn't even spell nefarious. But these were Irish plastic ducks and you know what they say - innocent until proved to be Irish. |

23 Aug 11 - 10:48 AM (#3211421) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: GUEST,leeneia I had to make sure nobody was pulling my leg. Ballydehob is an actual town, as shown here: http://homepage.eircom.net/~ballydehob/ The reference to wildlife and rare plants intrigues me. Dick, what was the worthy cause that the yellow plastic ducks volunteered for? (Good for you for supporting it.) |
23 Aug 11 - 03:57 PM (#3211607) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: The Sandman The worthy cause was the Ballydehob Village festival it has to be financed somehow. |

I admire those who can put on a brave face and maintain their dignity in the face of a crushing defeat and the public humiliation of failure. An admirable and inspiring example of gentlemanly conduct and true sportsmanship to us all. |

25 Aug 11 - 05:56 PM (#3212707) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. A close run thing, then. Did you fail to win at anything else, or was it just the one event? My advice would be to try and think of it as just a bit of harmless fun. You had a go, and that's what really counts. It's the taking part which is important, not the glory of victory. I, for one, do not believe the rumours circulating about you taking a dive in the last furlong or receiving a bribe from the local bookie whether or not there is YouTube footage of it. |
25 Aug 11 - 06:46 PM (#3212740) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: GUEST,999 Hey, someone puts the fix in, it's a done deal. Dick put lead weights in the duck that woulda beat him thus leaving Dick in THIRD place. I put some bucks on the nose of duck three who woulda been duck two. Thanks a fu#kin' load, Dick. |
25 Aug 11 - 07:07 PM (#3212752) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. Duck racing is a dog eat dog world. |

25 Aug 11 - 07:08 PM (#3212754) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. Heck, it's just a rumour. What sort of scum starts these things? |
25 Aug 11 - 08:03 PM (#3212781) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: GUEST,999 Yeah. Well, I can tell you this: there are a few heavies looking for the guy who fixed the duck race. The guy who came in second. Word on the street is that he'll have trouble playing the concertina what with the somewhat restricted space they intend to put it. Someone has to speak for the duck. |
25 Aug 11 - 11:24 PM (#3212862) Subject: RE: BS: Dick Miles wins second prize From: Smokey. Question is, did he fix the duck race, or did he duck the race fix? |
