23 Aug 11 - 01:27 PM (#3211487) Subject: Help identify Marshall 2*15 bass cab From: Richard Bridge I have spent a fair amount of time rummaging on the internet but still can't identify the Marshall Bass cab I have just acquired. I wonder if you can help. It is almost square 740mm high, 750 wide, and a bit shallower than you might expect at 355 deep (external measurements). Usual Marshall black speakercloth and vinyl and white piping. No badges apart from the usuall one on the front. No gold stripes. Serial number plaque badly scratched - it might say S/N A 947?1 2*15 - one above the other. Front baffle very slightly inclined upwards. Unported and unvented. Interior panels signed by Jim Marshall in big soft pencil. All birch ply except for the back which is chipboard. Reinforcing post between baffleboard and back board (but it might not be original). No other internal strutting. Big plastic carry handles, flimsier than I'd have expected - but with Marshall moulded in. No markings on the speakers at all, nothing, but quite big magnets 16 cm across, pressed steel chassis. Silver dust caps on the front of the cones. Single jack socket only. Here's the odd one - the two speakers are each 8 ohms and the cabinet is wired to be 4 ohms. Stacker plates on the top would accept feet 505mm apart. Narrower than my Marshall valvestate 200 feet, wider than my Selmer PA SV100/6 reverb. It's not a 7215 - they are tall and relatively narrow. It's not a 1551 or 1552 - the shape is similar but they are considerably deeper. It's not a 1981B JCM800 - they have the speakers on the diagonal and a front port. Even if the speakers have been changed (they are held in with woodscrews not bolts set in the baffle and nuts on the inside) the shape of the cab and the absence of porting rule out any of the above - and I can't trace any other Marshall 2*15s. |

I thought I had lost the mains lead for it (old style round socket)but I found it today, when clearing out a cupboard. I'm going to try it to see if it still works. It still worked the last time I tried it about ten years ago. If you hear a loud explosion, you'll know it's me. :) |
