It seems we are gonna get wet. Hurricane Irene is 'likely' to come up the I-95 corridor the next few days. This can mean power outages in many areas....so plan ahead.

I'd be happy to see "wet." Not so happy to see wind.

Of course, here in NC, we have had hurricanes do at least as much harm from "wet" as we have from wind - I am on high ground, but no so high as to have to worry about mudslides.

Will keep an eye on it, and will probably start tomorrow night moving stuff into the shed that might blow around in sustained 30 knot winds, but just as a precaution. Right now, looks likely Irene will track far enough east to not cause wind problems or significant danger of tornados in my neck of the woods. Am guessing we will get the benefit of much needed rain but not so much as to be a threat much west of Raleigh.

Well, the P-Vine freaks out over this kinda stuff... We didn't have them back in Wes Ginny or even Ginny but I heard about NC...

So tomorrow is Irene Day, meaning that we're going to get ready for the possibility of losing power... Fun... Not... I gotta rig up the generator to circuit breaker box so in case we lose power I can kill the main breaker and run the house thru the generator...Glad I brought 150 feet of 8/3/wg wire...

I'd love to see about 3 inches of rain, however, because it would fill our pond and wash the duck weed down stream... Not 6 inches of rain, however...

B~

♫Sometimes I live in the country,
Sometimes I live in town,
But if Irene comes up my way,
Gonna learn to swim, or drown.♫

Most hurricanes that come ashore on the US Atlantic or Gulf coasts are going to cause some grief somewhere in in North Carolina, and it is rare that the parameters of the threat can be known until the storm hits land -and even then it is a bit iffy. I remember going to bed about 11:00 pm after Hurricane Fran made landfall, assured it would track east through Rocky Mount, only to awake to devastation in the morning after the storm jogged west after making landfall.

I've learned the wisdom of preparing for the worst, even when the worst does not happen - because when the worst does happen, being unprepared is pure hell, and when the worst does not happen it simply means we are still prepared.

We're also preparing for strong winds and heavy rain from Sunday onward. Our temporary housing- camper/caravan- will be at great risk, as will the greenhouses and vehicles and portable toilet. We'll take refuge in the new house, sleeping (?!)on a pile of bedding. We'll have plywood ready to cover windows, and set up emergency supplies for 4 in case our closest neighbors need to take shelter with us. We can carry the hens with their chicks into the basement since they're in a cage and a cat carrier. The others...we'll see.

Rain we can easily handle. Winds concern me because of our current situation. Here comes another adventure!

The NHC has just updated the track eastward, closer to Cape Hatteras but with the eye still inland. EC is sticking with the eye just grazing the cape.

maeve... 9AM Monday on the EC track is, ahhh, have a peek.
