I just had to listen to Jack Haggerty...I think some of the best songs are log driving.

For growing up in the pacific northwest of USA, I have heard precious few log-driving or even lumbering songs of this area...new or old (come to think of it, close to zero). One thing that applies to this area, whereas it might not to other areas as much (but I am just guessing) is that, like fishing here, it was not done in English..so songs could exist by the hundreds in Swedish, Finnish,...I don't know what other ethnic groups were represented in large numbers as lumberjacks here..

There are a whole lot of Finnish ones. There's a CD of them, featuring Maria Kalaniemi on accordion among the band (hers was the only name I recognized).

Wade Hemsworth's Log Drivers Waltz

What's the song that starts:

As I sat down one evening
Within a small cafe
A 40 year old waitress
To me these words did say

I see that you're a logger
And not just a common bum
For nobody but a logger
Stirs his coffee with his thumb.

"Little Brown Bulls" -- great text but dull tunes, so I wrote my own.

Don't forget the Log Driver's Waltz sung byKate and Anna McGarrigle and animated by Mudcat's own John Weldon.
