I have visited The Clock Tower in Broughton in Furness before but I am just back from another visit to the lakes as and well as Greg Stevens / Boat Band excellent 'Trip to the Lakes' CD and the Beggar one (forgot the name) by Greg with Crookfinger Jack they have a super collection of vintage instruments - Guitars and Banjos - as well as some newer very well made Ukeleles! If you vist the web site wait for the picture at the top to change to 'Vintage US guitars' and see what you can spot. I remember there being a Harmony Parlour Guitar there - Similar in shape and size to teh one my Dad gave away! :-( The priciest was a Kalamazoo for £795. I think the guy that runs the gallery is either the luthier who does up the instriuments of he is something to do with him. Foolishly I didn't make a not of his name but if anyone wants a ride out to a lovely location with a couple of fabulous pubs to eat at and a trip to see a few very special guitars - I would recommend Broughton in Furness.

If anyone knows who the luthier is please feel free to add that information.

Cheers

Oh - just remembered there was also a Stella but I can't remember if that was the 4 string tenor guitar or of the tenor was a different one.

Note to self - There is a camera on my phone...

That probably covers my top (now called my music) room.

Newly decorated, new TV, new couch, 3 Martins, one 5 string banjo and about 8 harmonicas - no kids at home and the cat's gone.

'Lovely surroundings'. . .

Aye - But I suspect you don't want tourists traipsing through your top room in muddy boots though do you, Brian?

Vintage guitars? You want vintage guitars?

I just ran into this web site. It gives a pretty good run-down on the evolution of the guitar from the mixed stew of plucked and strummed instruments out of which the instrument we now call the "guitar" actually emerged. Fascinating stuff!! I understand that King Charles II was a fairly decent baroque guitar player when he wasn't chasing his female courtiers around the bed.
