05 Sep 11 - 09:49 PM (#3218792) Subject: RE: John Roberts/DebCowan Sept 10 ME From: ChanteyLass Charley, I think a trip to Maine would necessitate an overnight stay for me after an evening concert, and I've already told some performers that I will be in their audience at the Pawtucket Labor/Ethnic Heritage/Stone Soup Festival the next day. If I stayed overnight in Maine I doubt I could get to that. Also, I'd be an older woman traveling alone in a car that is older than it looks, and even with a cell phone I don't think I should risk it. And it looks like the Portsmouth Maritime Festival will again conflict with New Bedford's Working Waterfront Festival. So much Sea Music, so little time and so much distance! To indulge in thread drift, I spent the day at Mystic Seaport where I saw for myself that everything survived Irene. I hope people have accessed the seaport's photos on Facebook which show how they prepared and how high the water rose. Also, Bonnie Milner of the Johnson Girls was there today and entertained us with a few songs. In an attempt to return this thread to its original purpose, once again I must say that i enjoy Deb Cowan and John Roberts together and separately. I hope this concert and the concert at SINSULL's are well attended. |

07 Sep 11 - 12:36 PM (#3219572) Subject: RE: John Roberts/DebCowan Sept 10 ME From: DebC This really is bittersweet. I am really sorry that the 'Chucks cannot come to So. Portland this weekend and I do hope that things in your area of VT get smoothed over soon, Peter. John and I look forward to seeing all the S. Portland folk in Bath. I suppose the good news is that if I am around when the 'Chucks reschedule, hopefully I can be there! See you all on Saturday, Deb |

We just got home after an after concert feed with Deb and John. Tomorrow we run them down to the Five Islands wharf for the fresh lobster feed. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
11 Sep 11 - 08:12 AM (#3221508) Subject: RE: John Roberts/DebCowan Sept 10 ME From: Midchuck ...I only wish that they had had more of an audience. Just as well we postphoned. The potential audience for each gig would have been split down the middle. Soon all the 60s vintage folkies will be in nursing homes or underground, and "folk music" will mean only acoustic singer-songwriters singing about their own angst while playing the guitar in strange tunings. Well, it's not my worry... Peter |
