Making Slideshows HELP

Hi

My wife and I are keen photographers and from the pictures and videos we take I produce lots of slideshows and DVDs to play on out TV sets. We have three DVD players ( Toshiba,Sony, Panasonic ) and all of the disks that I make using a mixture of Sony Vegas, Photoshop Elements 9, Corel Paintshop Pro X3. These are used mainly for movies and I use Magix and Windows Movie Maker for picture slideshows.
My wife hasn't tried to make any slideshows of her own pictures but she wants to try. She thinks the programs I use are a little complicated for her so I looked on the net for something fairly simple to use.
I came up with a really good free program from NCH Software called Photostage Slideshow maker. It has everything that we want to enable my good woman to be able to start to make some shows of her own.
There is a snag though ( there usually is !!) I downloaded the free version of this program and understood that that the purchase version would have more functionality and procedures. But as we wanted simplicity it was fine for us.
My wife sorted out some pictures and fed them into the program, she even found adding her own music as a soundtrack fairly painless and so she burned it as a DVD.
The disk was created and ran perfectly on her computer in Windows Media Player. But we are unable to get it to run on any of our DVD players and so we are unable to get it to play on a TV.
Does anyone here know this piece of software??
Is it because we are running the free version and need to purchase the fuller one to be able to get it to format the disk to play on a DVD Player and then on TV ??
The program does have the facility to create data disks and share with Youtube etc but we haven't tried that.
Help required – please.
Cheers

I don't know the software, but DVDs that play on the computer and not on domestic players are usually caused by either the wrong format DVD, or failing to finalise the DVD.

If you're using the same blanks as work for you, then it's probably the latter - check if there's an option in the software.

I download photographs onto laptop using CD RW disc. I can play this in a domestic DVD player linked to a DVD recorder. Using the three phono leads, Yellow, red and white. When I am copying from DVD player onto DVD recorder, I insert red phono lead from hi fi into DVD recorder and add music. Yellow and white are visual, red is audio.

hi Newport Boy

Yes I think you are right. The finalise phase appears to be missing from this program.

I have tried to find it but it just doesn't appear to break the information down enough for me to find out what is there.

I wonder if that it what is included in the paid for version???

Thanks for your comments

Ummm... red and white are audio (R & L), and yellow is composite video...

hi bluesman

I am not quite sure what you are doing there.

If I understand it, you are downloading pictures ( where from??) and then recording them on to a DVD player.??

What you will have is just a batch of pictures in a folder on a file ??

Will you be able to add sound to this?? eg background music and narratives??

This is what the Photostage program does very well but when I try to create a DVD, it does create one that plays on my laptop but won't p[ay on any of my 3 DVD players.

I have other programs that will do this easily but they a mite more complicated to use than my wife ( a beginner) can use.

Thanks for you interest and perhaps I haven't understood your explanation well.??

Cheers

Mike

You shouldn't need any additional software to finalise a disc on a PC - go to My Computer (or whatever your version calls it!), RIGHT click on the writable disk icon (often drive D, but could be something else) and there should be a 'close session' option if the disc hasn't been finalised.

Sorry Bernard, you are of course right,Mike, I sort out my batch of photographs on the laptop (put them in the order I want) then download them onto a CD it will finalise on laptop. I then take the CD and play it on domestic DVD player, it will appear as a slide show. I run a lead from my hi fi or ipod to the DVD recorder red and White, I run yellow lead from DVD player to DVD recorder. I have my music list in order, hit record in DVD recorder and run music. It is simple enough and I get great results.

hi bluesman

I see what you mean now. But I used to do that years ago. The problem was then that the CD was created in data mode and was purely a copy of what you had downloaded from the computer..???

maybe things have changed since I used to do it.

Thanks for comments, I do value them.

hi bernard

I have checked the disk as you advised but it doesn't have a "close session" option on right clicking.

I think that as it plays perfectly in the style and format eg with transitions, music and effects plus titles etc on my laptop in Windows Media Player it must have been finalised ?? But for some reason it doesn't play them on any of my DVD Players.

I have put exactly the same images into another slideshow program ( Magix) and get almost the same result on the laptop but it also plays them on my DVD Players.

I note from searching the Net that NCH software has been prone to this kind of problem before - http://forum.webuser.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-80653.html

Hope the blue clicky thing works !!

sometimes there is an option to export in other formats...
some programs, especially free ones, use proprietary formats
that other programs cannot read....check the extension )the letters
that come after the "dot" )

windows movie maker files are created in .wmv format....etc.
