Am I right in thinking there's a session there tonight (Mon 12th Sept)?

Indeed there is - I shall be there with guitar, mandolin and a new jig doll ("Wee Willie") - a Scotsman with a superb limb under his kilt...

Excellent! Will be bringing other daughter along tonight, but sadly not gorgeous blonde former Office Manager, who has a work meeting so can't make it.

What? No gorgeous blonde former Office Manager? Damn you, Naylor!

At my age Will, there's a limited supply of gorgeous blondes to hang out with!

Actually, I think I took a different gorgeous blonde to Ian's Nick Pynn gig, so perhaps they're not *that* thin on the ground!

Wish we could get along but have had the day from hell at work with another tomorrow. Not sure I'll get to sleep *sigh*

Still haven't managed to meet you yet Rob, unless you were at Tonbridge & didn't say hello?

Have a good one! We'll get along one day, p'raps someone could put this thread up again?

I tried to get to Tonbridge, but in the end work stuff intervened and by the time I'd finished sorting it out it was really too late to go over...so I'm sorry to say I missed you there. Would have said hello if I'd been able to make it!

Will...hope you're OK...Alan and I were both expecting to see you but there you were, prominent by your absence!

Forgot to say that was a good session...had to leave a bit early to get as few zzzzs in before setting off for Devon at 050 this morning

Alan Day was in very good form, though his tune "Manor Royal" certainly doesn't conjure up for me the unremitting bleakness of the eponymous industrial estate :-)

I *loved* Piers' song about libraries, and if anyone has the lyrics, I'd appreciate a copy!

Yes - I'm fine. I've broken my specs and my new ones aren't ready yet. I'm fine for driving during the day but find night driving without them difficult (and unsafe). My promised chauffeur couldn't make it at the last minute...

I emailed Al about 7pm - but he probably didn't get the email until later.

Were Scottish Alan and Carol there? It would have been their last night before their removal to Edinburgh. I'll miss their singing - particularly Alan, who must have one of the finest bass-baritone voices anywhere.

Yes, they were both there for their last night. I agree that they've both got great voices.

Alan had my other daughter (the one that came with me to the Tonbridge FC do, not the one at the Rising Sun last month) in stitches with his "drunken" singing towards the end of the night.

How he could lurch about like that, stumbling and grabbing chair backs and the edge of the bar while carrying 3/4 of a pint of beer which slopped *up to* the rim all the time but never actually spilled a drop, while simultaneously singing "badly well" (if you know what I mean) is beyond my comprehension. It was great!

They're having a "final final farewell" at "Elsie's" (Queen's Arms, Cowden Pound) next Tuesday (20th Sept) which is an open invitation for anyone to come along.

I thought Alan would do his drunk act! It's a classic.

I'll try and get to Elsie's to bid them farewell.

Got your message this morning Will, you were sadly missed. I was going to tell you about Alan and Carol's farewell night. Let me know if you are going,
They have fitted the pub out with loads of spot lights so take your shades the next time you go. It was very noisy last night but, enjoyable, apart from my coughing.

Yes - I must get up to Elsie's on Tuesday - 'twould be a pity not to say goodbye to Alan and Carol. See you there Al, hopefully - and perhaps it's time to give the Havana cigars a miss, eh?

Chaps - I didn't know that Alan and Carol were moving back up north of the border. Please could you give them both my very best wishes for the move? Sadly I wouldn't be able to go along to that one. I have very fond memories of my days at the Ram in Claygate when they were residents and part of the Caledonia Chorus at the back of the room, and of Carol pushing me forward to sing in a session that Sandra Kerr was in charge of at a Farnham Folk Day when I was being my (in those days) usual bashful and reticent self about singing in public.
