13 Sep 11 - 11:17 PM (#3222882) Subject: BS: Guitarists Are No Longer Safe!!! From: Rapparee EVERETT, Wash., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A Washington state man is being investigated for first-degree assault after allegedly attacking a guitarist for singing a song he didn't like, officials say. The 33-year-old Mount Vernon, Wash., man, whose name was not released, has "a potential mental health issue," prosecutors said. He was being held on $25,000 bail, The (Everett, Wash.) Daily Herald reported Monday. The suspect jumped on stage with a knife while a band performed Friday during the Mukilteo Lighthouse Festival. The guitarist, who suffered minor cuts to his neck, used his guitar to fend off the attack. The man later told police he didn't approve that the band was singing what he thought was a song about a baby or a girl. Andrew Alsdorf, a deputy prosecutor, argued for a $50,000 bail, given the suspect's mental state. "There is a potential mental health issue going on, but the overwhelming concern is for the safety of the community," Alsdorf said in court. No mention of what the song was. |

13 Sep 11 - 11:39 PM (#3222895) Subject: RE: BS: Guitarists Are No Longer Safe!!! From: Jeri I'd like to hear what the song was. Times like that, though, I bet people wish they had a National Steel... or a banjo. We need dojos springing up across the country to instruct musicians in the self-defense of Guild fu and Taylor kwan do. Just imagine the katas... |

I explained who had written it, and sang it in my next spot. He approved. Fortunately. |

14 Sep 11 - 01:03 AM (#3222910) Subject: RE: BS: Guitarists Are No Longer Safe!!! From: Little Hawk They never were safe! There's a guy around here who collects old Martin and Gibson guitars. He has one from the 1950s...it shows signs of having been played hard over many long years, including a large caliber bullet hole that goes right through the front and back of the body, probably lined up about at heart level, assuming the man playing it was standing at the time....I don't imagine he was afterward. Must've been a jealous husband or something. These things happen now and then. |

From: Jeri For as long as the link last: From The Seattle Times: Singer fends off armed attacker with his guitar and According to a Mukilteo Police Department report, Sampson told arresting officers that he ought to be charged with murder because he intended to kill the singer-guitarist. "[He] was singing about me and how I should die," Sampson told police, according to the report. Personally, I think this is decent song challenge material. |

14 Sep 11 - 04:53 PM (#3223282) Subject: RE: BS: Guitarists Are No Longer Safe!!! From: GUEST,josepp That's nothing. Charlie Patton once politely refused a drink bought for him by a patron in a juke joint and the man dragged out a knife and slashed Patton's neck barely missing his jugular. He was shot in the in the leg in another juke joint. Son House went to Parchman Farm for killing a man in a juke joint. the guy was drunk and opened fire and hit House in the leg so he drew his own weapon and killed him. Fortunately, he was set free after only a couple of years. Robert Johnson appears to have been poisoned by the husband of a woman he was seen talking to at a suppa. So when have guitarists ever been safe? |
