(On that page, click "Access this item.") Here's my transcription: DICKEY SAID TO JOHNNY As sung by Morris Norton of Madison County, North Carolina, 1978. Well, Dickey said to Johnny one cold December day, "Let's ride around the mountain to pass the time away." They rode to the top of the mountain, the mountain top so high, And Dickey said to Johnny, "I heard a woman cry." He looked off to the right side and down to the left. He saw a pretty woman chained and by herself. (2X) Dickey being kind-hearted, he ... Wrapped his greatcoat around her and take her on behind. They rode to the top of the mountain to a certain fork of the road. She wrapped three fingers in her hair and give three screaming cries. (2X) Up stepped the seven robbers with their weapons in their hand, Laid hold of Dickey Broddard: "Young man, your life is run." (2X) And Johnny said to Dickey, "Before I fight, I'll fly." And Dickey said to Johnny, "Before I fly, I'll die." (2X) They fought from Sunday morning, till the sun went down that night, Killed six of the robbers and the other'n had to fly. (2X) ...
