Raise the Roof: Sheffield singaround

At Raise the Roof we sing songs with choruses or refrains
that everyone can pick up and join in on.
Anyone is welcome to lead a song or two -- or --
if you prefer, just sit back and join in on the choruses...
It's up to you!
If you come for the first time in October or November,
the MC will guarantee you lead at least two songs (if you want to)."

We meet every 2nd Thursday
(remaining 2011 dates: 13 Oct • 10 Nov • 8 Dec)
8.30 pm upstairs at the Red Deer
(a REAL ALE pub on Pitt Street, S1 4DD)

And here's advance notice of our December Special:
MARILYN MIDDLETON:
"the little lady from Chicago with the BIG, BIG voice!"

Come join us for a good sing!

Next Raise the Roof is Thurs 12 Jan -- come one, come all!

BTW, our December RtR was one of those truly special evenings you treasure the memory of -- although there was a last-minute change of plans, due to Marilyn Middleton breaking several ribs (poor soul!) in November and being unable to sing. We were incredibly lucky in that the Melrose Quartet (i.e. Nancy Kerr & James Fagan and Richard & Jess Arrowsmith (of Crucible)) very kindly agreed to step in -- with only a week's notice -- and did an absolutely cracking job; it was a fantastic evening! (In case you're wondering why we didn't post the change of guests here on Mudcat... well, when word got out that Melrose Quartet would be our December guests, our remaining tickets sold out so quickly that it didn't seem a good idea to create yet more demand for tickets...)

We're planning to post a clip from the evening onto YouTube soon -- will post a link here when we've done so.

Magnificent stand-ins!

Wish I was closer, sounds great, Vicky.

Noreen, the regular singing session is worth planning a long weekend in Sheffield for!

I'm sadly going to the manifesto recording with my dad, but I'm certain I can convince him to come for the second half.

Foggers, it'll be great to see you there (though I must confess I'll be arriving late this time as well, as I too have tickets to attend the BBC R4 recording of Mark Thomas's "The "Manifesto" -- sod's law it's the same evening!)

DC, expect I'll see you at both events, then...

Raise the Roof is this coming Thursday, 9th Feb -- come one, come all!

Thought I'd also take the opportunity to provide a link to this clip:
Raise The Roof party with The Melrose Quartet, which shows the brilliant finale of our December gathering --
i.e. everyone joining in with MQ (Nancy, James, Jess & Richard) on the rousing choruses of John Ball!

The high point of a superb evening...
