29 Sep 11 - 06:55 PM (#3231363) Subject: RE: Free song download - Shenandoah From: Crowhugger Thank you very much,Dave! This will go beautifully on a "calm frayed traffic nerves" CD for the car. I can tell that it'll soothe the savage beast within, make me want to let everyone merge ahead of me (even the rude, sleazy buggers who zig-zag into the smallest space I leave in front for safety's sake) instead of filling that space myself when one of those jerks starts posturing to cut me off. BTW if you haven't driven Hwy. 401 across the top of Toronto at rush hour, you only think you know what I mean. 8-) Somewhere I read that the name Shenandoah means daughter of the stars--what a nice place to be mentally instead of that traffic jam. |

29 Sep 11 - 09:10 PM (#3231410) Subject: RE: Free song download - Shenandoah From: Crowhugger Is there a particular canal to which the band name refers? The Erie of course seems obvious but there are a few smaller ones too right in Buffalo, not to mention a few tributary canals to the Erie, so I thought I'd ask. |
30 Sep 11 - 07:53 AM (#3231594) Subject: RE: Free song download - Shenandoah From: Dave Ruch Crowhugger, the band was named after Canal Street in Buffalo, the former entertainment district where the Erie Canal met the Great Lakes. Canal Street was known by the sailors (some of whom had been around the world on seagoing vessels) in its day as "the wickedest street in the world" - a place "where vice unbridled ran its course." Canal Street is long gone, but our first gigs were down at the Buffalo Waterfront within sight of its former location. Among many other things, we do some Erie Canal songs and also a piece from the C&O Canal in Washington ("Otho's Song", which can be heard on the website listed above). |
