Telecaster De-Luxe? An f-hole on the opposite bout from the scratch plate, and a partially hollow body?

Are you thinking of the Fender Telecoustic?

Looks like they are going for about 250 quid new.

Hope that helps

Pete.

PS - bet they were pissed that Godin beat them to the Acousticaster name!

Yes theres an acousticaster for about seven hundred quid. The telecoustic looka not unlike the washburns and Kramers that were around in the 1970's. Does anyone know anything about these guitars?

I have a couple of Line 6 Variax 700's which I reckon are okay. But they sound great through the Fender acousticaster amps. You have to wonder if the Fender guitar will sound better through a Fender amp.

brief potted history off top of head...

mid 90's - maybe some kind of expensive USA made Fender custom shop tele/stratacoustic

late 90's - budget priced mass market chinese made Fender tele/stratacoustic approx £250

some time later I believe the cheap ones were shifted to the Squier brand
and a more expensive version re-introduced under Fender name ??

But now it looks like the cheaper sub £300 product has reverted back to fender brand ??

Don't we just love fender's annual international pricing and marketing twists and turns !!!

Couple of years ago JHS introduced a rival version
the "Vintage Synergy"

http://www.jhs.co.uk/reviews/SynergyAcousticMay2010.pdf

approx £170

which is also available as a 12 string.

I own a late 90's chinese fender stratacoustic.

nice electric neck bolted to a plastic bowlback body,
with I guess some kind of solid wood top.
The acoustic volume is too weak for pub sessions,
but the onboard piezo pickup and active EQ is not too bad for amping up.

The initial run of chinese fender stratacoustics, despite the slender fast electric neck, suffered from being set at factory
with far too high action,
requiring a bodge solution of a shim applied to the bolt on neck..

or more drastic nut and bridge shaving.

Don't know if or how well later production runs fixed this ???

2nd hand prices prices vary on ebay.

I rarely play it, and am tempted to reuse the neck for another project
and maybe stick some kind of banjo or mando neck on the stratacoustic body ???

Didn't realise those acoustic strats etc. had been around so long - I saw one the other day and dismissed it as a reality glitch brought about by a dodgy gerkin in Subway - either that or post-post-modern irony at the Fender factory which turns the iconic electric back into a useless acoustic. I feel the same way about acoustic bass guitars, though at least there are some precedents for these in the real world. That said, I had a lot of fun with a bass ukulele with rubber strings once; not much sound though, and no electro element either. I've been playing around with bass guitars since I was five; I don't play guitar - contenting myself with my wife's purple-heart Daisy Rock which I noodle on from time to time whilst dreaming of a 1961 Telecaster...

Otherwise have a look at this:

Telecaster Acoustic Thinline

What next? An acoustic Precision? To think we live in the such vile heresy and abomination and people just sit back and watch it happen...

I feel about Fender as I do about my own career as a musician. Fifty years near enough. The product may have been substandard at times, but at least we both kept trading.

Music is like living and breathing; it's something you're born with - so I've never thought of it as a career - more of a blessing, or a curse (at times) with the advantage that people might enjoy watching you do it in public. As musicians (?) we don't just make it up to suite - everything we do derives from Traditional Vocabulary, whatever the genre, the style. One may write songs, but first one has to acquaint oneself with the discipline; the craft of songwriting is the mastery of the idiom with which to beguile one's auduience with one's own creativity. Traditional Songs, on the other hand, are already there - they are products of other song-writers from a time before copyright and recording technology, when such things ran feral through cultures and communities being adapted and adopted to suit and very rarely sung the same way twice - such was the fluidity of the medium. I see singer-songwriters today who are like that - Jane Siberry and Robin Willianson come to mind - whose own work exists in a similar state of flux and spontaneity, where nothing is fixed, and yet the mastery of their craft is such that each performance feels definitive. Like Sex, or Jazz, or maling a Stir Fry, or anything else that lives, breathes, happens, comes, goes, goes around, comes around...

Then I dream again of that 1961 Telecaster (the same age as me but it will live longer), or watch some old footage of Roy Buchanan, or hope that the latest piece of consumer product from Fender is going to engender a similar level of natural born cultural genius. Like yesterday, upstairs in Dawson's in Liverpool where a lad of 14 or so was showing off his not-inconsiderable chops to his mates on (appropriately enough) a Hofner Violin Bass. As with Language, the Feral Lore - and Love - of Human Musical Tradition is alive and well some 50,000 years since it was first begun.

or maling a Stir Fry

A typo, of course - but is it making or mailing?

The thing is Suibhne, I need expensive guitars and other stuff to do my thing. You don't buy them as a hobby. Not working guitars. As opposed to the the things that people with good jobs make a once in a lifetime investment in.

So that means gigs. And lots of them. its a heathy discipline in the end. It keeps it real. All the best music comes from people who get their hands dirty in the real world - rather than seeking out repectful audiences. Anyway thsts what i tell meself.

Not once do I use the word hobby. And all the best music I know (and love) comes from people who don't give a shit either way - they do it because they have no choice.

And aren't all gigs a matter of seeking out respectful audiences? At least audiences who are prepared to meet you at least half-way, which is the best place to meet them - out there in no-man's land. Most of the stuff I do is to hard-won audiences of everyday passersby who regard me simply as on hand entertainment - if I can engage them with a ballad or two as part of that then I'm being sincere regarding my craft & the purpose of it. Pay cheques notwithstanding, I feel well rewarded. But I'm thinking 6 hour stints in country-parks, or engaging with disparate souls in a howling woodland on the night of hallowe'en which is never a matter of relying on the material. My hands get so dirty the muck is ingrained - but that way you can shell out obscene amounts of hard-earned moolah for a handcrafted bespoke Crwth or Black Sea Fiddle which you can rely on to do the job, which is how life works - in the real world anyway, wherever the hell that might be. Once again, we each of us carry our ideal universe around within our hearts...

not in my experience.

Stratacoustics are crap. The jig's wrong and they all need the neck pocket shimming. I know, I've fixed dozens.
