From: MoorleyMan Sadly for you Jane, the best of the (few) Harrogate folk nights is only held once a month, on the first Monday at the Traveller's Rest, Crimple (see other thread). If I take "mid-week" to mean just Wed and Thurs, then there are some others in the area (as opposed to the direct locality) that might be worth your travelling to - depending on your predilections being for singaround or guest night or tune session of course. You might like to consider these: Morley folk club (not-quite-alternate Wednesdays) The Topic folk club, Bradford (Thursdays) The Black Swan fc, York (Thursdays) Otley fc (Wednesdays) The Park, Wibsey, Bradford (Wednesdays) Otherwise, the Tykes' News (Filofolk) web-page is also a useful source for upcoming and regular folk/acoustic events, though it tends to cover the folkier side and many acoustic events aren't as widely advertised. Or - if you were to PM me, Jane, and tell me which exact week you'll be in Harrogate, and what kind of folk/acoustic event you favour, then I could easily look out something specific for you. Cheers! |

From: Sir Roger de Beverley I'm involved with a weekly jam night in Knaresborough on a Thursday at the Board Inn on the high street. It is usually pretty much rock based but the last Thursday of the month is now billed as acoustic - which means that they give the drummer the night off although the instruments are still plugged in and we use mics. I manage to fit my acoustic guitar and mandolin in with whatever is being played on any night and the people are welcoming and will listen to any sort of music even on the rock nights. Roger ps Can vouch for the Traveller's Rest too. |

Saw a band called Scapegoat Kelly, great musicians but unfortunate lyrics - one song had this repeated line in it: 'you've got the right key, but you put it in the wrong keyhole'. I'd be careful about singing that line lads, it could be taken the wrong way (no pun intended)! |

From: GUEST,Nick Dow Jane if you are able to travel down the Blubberhouses and get to Skipton, there is the Skipton Folk Club every Monday at the Narrowboat, carry on you've got Keighley on Friday, then singers clubs at Silsden Tues, singers club at Earby Tues, Blacko first Weds. Earby again on Thursday, Salterforth every first Saturday, and finally Burnley on Friday. If that doesn't increase your repertoire nought will!! |
