08 Oct 11 - 04:13 AM (#3235692) Subject: BS: US Prosecutors Threaten Legal Marijuana From: JohnInKansas Calif. pot dispensaries told by feds to shut down "U.S. prosecutors send letters even though state law allows production and sales." And a followup article: US: California pot crackdown targets large dispensaries "Those near children also targeted in state, which allows medical marijuana " The real impact of the letters sent out by the US Prosecuters is unclear, but appears to be a "reversal of policies" previously announced. References are made in the articles to: 1. In Colorado, which also allowed medical marijuana, the Treasury Department is requiring that banks close accounts of legal medical marijuana businesses. 2. The IRS says dispensaries may not deduct standard business expenses such as payroll, security or rent. "The result will be closure of the most well regulated dispensaries and loss of millions of dollars in tax revenue for local governments," the group stated. 3. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last month ruled that medical marijuana patients sanctioned by states cannot legally possess firearms. (or concealed carry licenses) Too much to post the entire content of both articles, and too little real content to form much of an opinion. Read 'em for yourselves if concerned or curious. John |

That is a big deal since California is the #1 agricultural state in the country. The medical marijuana shops are bogus Every time an undercover agent tries to buy pot he is able to do so. No problem. Anyone who can't score a doobie in the Golden State is a dope. |

08 Oct 11 - 11:18 AM (#3235808) Subject: RE: BS: US Prosecutors Threaten Legal Marijuana From: saulgoldie Nevermind the morality or other aspects of jailing pot smokers, the economic costs are immense. Imprisonment costs tens of thousands per prisoner per year. Even if the pot smokers were not employed, which many of them might be, paying taxes and buying stuff, maintaining them on welfare would cost considerably less. Furthermore, pot smoking makes people lethargic, giggly, and hungry. But they rarely make near as much mayhem as someone jacked up on alcohol. Saul |

08 Oct 11 - 02:47 PM (#3235880) Subject: RE: BS: US Prosecutors Threaten Legal Marijuana From: katlaughing This was quite telling, imo: As for using marijuana as medicine, Sabet said the proper path should be one where components of marijuana are studied and possibly approved by the Food & Drug Administration for use in pharmaceuticals. "You synthesize and deliver it in the way we deliver medicines in this country," he said, "through pharmacies — not dispensaries with 300-pound bouncers, bars on the windows and neon lights." Drug companies are not happy when they don't get a slice of the pie. I'm surprised they haven't tried taking over the alcohol industry...i.e. red wine being medicinal etc.! |

Isn't this a brazen example of the federal government stepping in where it has no business? How come all the sudden, this is a good thing? And for the liberals who cheer about everything Obama does, why aren't you lambasting his administration for engaging in these Bushian tactics with a zeal that the Bush administration never showed? |

08 Oct 11 - 03:58 PM (#3235902) Subject: RE: BS: US Prosecutors Threaten Legal Marijuana From: GUEST,999 Ya got a pie. It's divided in half. Wall Street has half, Republicans have half and Democrats have the other half. That's not bad math. Your country is about 14 trillion dollars in the red. In easier terms to comprehend, it would take a jet plane flying at the speed of sound 14 years to reel out one trillion dollars. To reel out your current national debt, the plane would have to fly for 196 years. Show me politicians who are financially poor. Go ahead. If there is such a list, it'll be a real short one written in big letters. |

09 Oct 11 - 12:28 AM (#3236039) Subject: RE: BS: US Prosecutors Threaten Legal Marijuana From: Gurney You have more fun to follow. Here in NZ, where there is no legal marijuana, even if you are dying and can't take prescribed painkillers (as my friend was) there has been a steady movement to artificial dopes. The way our laws stand, if it isn't documented, it is legal, and artificial 'marijuanas' have been introduced privately. Each artificial drug has been picked off as it was documented and then made illegal. The biggest operator in introducing these artificial marijuanas has given up, as it is getting to be more trouble than he thinks it is worth. And he was concerned with quality and standardisation for safety. |

Funny how the liberals seem incapable of getting pissed off at him for what is clearly an intrusive big govt policy but he can't seem to mobilize anyone or anything to get the economy righted.
