12 Oct 01 - 12:31 PM (#570581) Subject: Lyr Add: FACTORY GIRL From: forty two And what about the original Factory Girl. I believe it comes from the north of Ireland although there are other versions where the stalker gets away with his girl!
As I was a walking one fine summers morning
I spied one amongst them, more fairer than any;
I stepped up beside her to view her more closely,
"I come not to scorn you, fair maid, I adore you,
"I have land, I have houses, I've adorned them in ivy;
With these words she turned and with less she has left me |

No more shall I work in the factory, greasy up my clothes;
CHORUS: Pity me, my darling; pity me, I say.
No more shall I hear the bosses say, "Boys, you'd better daulf."
No more shall I hear the drummer wheels a-rollin' over my head.
No more shall I hear the whistle blow, to call me up so soon;
No more shall I see the super come, all dressed up so proud. |

I can't tell if they are singing "bottoms"...it's sounds like "bothams"...and this verse doesn't make sense to me... Any help? I got this from an Italian compilation album: KELTIKA, just released. 13 Jul 03 - 10:08 AM (#982334) Subject: RE: Lyrics request: Factory songs From: The Fooles Troupe Factory Lad (aka Turning Steel) Wonderful Harmony Song! Chorus: Turning steel, how do you feel? As in the chuck you spin. If you felt like me, you'd roll right out, And never roll back in. Just worked up a version of Poverty Knock on the P/A which involves the left hand only using just the basic three (1,4,5) chord buttons, and changes button for each and every note - plus a bit of trills and vamp here and there - really bounces when you add the tune on the top! :-) Robin |
13 Jul 03 - 01:30 PM (#982402) Subject: RE: Lyrics request: Factory songs From: GUEST,Guest Ian There is a brilliant song by Ralph McTell called Factory Girl that we include in our concert sets. It always seems to get a good response. Reflects life between dreams and reality (there are always the next days toils waiting). |
13 Jul 03 - 07:10 PM (#982559) Subject: Lyr Add: FACTORY (Bruce Springsteen) From: madwaff The song Boab D refers to above is 'Factory' by Bruce Springstein - good version on Mike Harding's 'Bombers Moon' Early in the morning, factory whistle blows, Man gets out of bed, puts on his clothes Goes through the door, walks out in the morning light That's the work, the working, just the working life Throught he mansions of fear, through the mansions of pain See my daddy walking throuigh the factory gates in the rain Factory takes his hearing, factory takes his pride That's the work, the working, just the working life And it's early in the evening factory whistle cries Men walk through these gates with death in their eyes And you've just gotta believe it, someone's gonna get hurt tonight That's the work, the working, just the working life Early in the morning, factory whistle blows, Man gets out of bed, puts on his clothes Goes through the door, walks out in the morning light That's the work, the working, just the working life (I think that's right... correst me if not!) Cheers madwaff |
14 Jul 03 - 02:51 AM (#982744) Subject: Lyr Add: FACTORY GIRL (Ralph McTell) From: songs2play FACTORY GIRL Ralph McTell Hurrying across the bridge before the siren calls. This morning she's racing her shadow, all along the factory wall. Then through the gate, where she will wait in line, To cross the yard, to clock her card in time, And under her scarf her hair set in curls, The day begins for the factory girl. For a while the girls try to talk, but their voices soon drown in the din. Their eyes watch their hands do the work, and a new day's rhythm begins. No change today, like yesterday, the same But it's dinner soon, then afternoon, then home, And hurrying home in the fading light The factory girl is going out tonight. Her mother says, "Don't be late, you've got to get up again before eight". "Yes", she cries, but there's joy in her eyes, As she runs down the path through the gate. And out on the rainy streets hoping that her night will last. No whispering palms on the beach for her, Just the swish of the cars going past. But she believes no one could feel the same, Touching and whispering in the rain, But the rain takes away her beautiful curls. The night is soon gone for the factory girl. And hurrying across that bridge before the sirens call. This morning she's skipping the puddles all along the factory wall. A starling sings and shakes his wings, she smiles. Then at the gate, she hesitates, for a while. Then from inside the gates the sirens roar And across the yard runs the factory girl. |
14 Jul 03 - 03:29 AM (#982753) Subject: RE: Lyrics request: Factory songs From: GUEST,boab d Hullo all Madwaff I had heard that this was either a song that Springsteen did but I was unsure if it was his song. But I do now. Seen something related to him whilst looking for the River Detectives and it was mentioned that either he did it or he liked the song I cant remember as it was a wee while ago. And thanks for clarifying this for me as I'm a wee but special and slow sometimes. However a great song no doubt and the RD's do a fine accapella version of it . Not sure if Bruce does it that way as I've never heard him at it but if you can get a hold of the RD's version and give it a wee go I don't think you'll be dissappointed. Dylan |
