If you have them or know where they are available on-line, please let me know! Thanks.

Factory Girl
(Jagger/Richards)

Waiting for a girl who's got curlers in her hair
Waiting for a girl she has no money anywhere
We get buses everywhere
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and her knees are much too fat
Waiting for a girl who weares scarves instead of hat
Her zipper's broken down the back
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she gets me into fights
Waiting for a girl we get drunk on friday nights
She's a sight for sore eyes
Waiting for a factory girl

Waiting for a girl and she's got stains all down her dress
Waiting for a girl and my feet are getting wet
She ain't come out yet
Waiting for a factory girl

Factory

In passage of time
To a cigarette burn
In the book that I read
To the sentence I learn
Up and down
Going round
Going round 'till we drown again
I'm gonna set myself up
I'm gonna up to the top
Up to the top
To the top
I'm going down to the ground
Going round
Till we drown
Going round till we drown again

Factory
Imitation of life
Factory
We all go out to lunch
A certain raion we know
Has left us unaware
Someone else has taken leave
Someone who did care
Elevators just don't crash
The answer lies within
Elevators Elevators
Answer lies within

To the glittering prize
To the fool in the sky
I've got a jewel in my eye
I'm going up
Coming down
Going round
Till we drown
Going round till we drown again

To the centre of the man
Because he had a plan
He had a plan to escape
But now we've got it on tape
Going up
Coming down
Going around
Going round till we drown again

Factory
Imitation of life
Factory
We all go out to lunch
A certain raion we know
Has left us unaware
Someone else has taken leave
Someone who did care
Elevators just don't crash
The answer lies within
Elevators Elevators
Answer lies within

Factory
Going out to lunch
Factory
Going out to lunch

FACTORY TOWN
Dan Seals

Billy came by this morning
And we could tell there was something wrong
He said the union called him
We stay together and we'll be strong
We'll be strong

Gonna shut down this factory town
There ain't gonna be no work around
There gonna shut down this factory town
And I don't know how long we can hold on
Before it's gone

Now I don't know the problems
I just work hard on the line
And I don't know the owner
The whistle blows at quitting time
And now I find

Gonna shut down this factory town
There ain't gonna be no work around
There gonna shut down this factory town
And I don't know how long, we can hold on

They say it's too late to talk it over (yeah)
That's the word out on the street
Now I don't have any answers
But if we don't work, we don't eat

There gonna shut down this factory town
There ain't gonna be no work around
There gonna shut down this factory town
And I don't know how long, we can hold on

There gonna shut down
There gonna shut down this factory town
And I don't know how long, we can hold on

(from Wendie the DanSeals page webmaster.)Don't know if it's still wanted, but finally got it!

The Factory Lad

Subject: Lyr Add: FACTORY GIRL
From: forty two

And what about the original Factory Girl. I believe it comes from the north of Ireland although there are other versions where the stalker gets away with his girl!

As I was a walking one fine summers morning
The birds in the bushes did warble and sing;
Gay laddies and lasses and couples a-sporting
Going down to the factory, their work to begin.

I spied one amongst them, more fairer than any;
Her lips like the red rose that none could excel;
Her skin like the lily that grows in yon valley;
And she was a hard working factory girl.

I stepped up beside her to view her more closely,
When on me she cast such a look of disdain
"Have manners, young sir, and don't come so near me,
For although I'm a poor girl I think it a shame."

"I come not to scorn you, fair maid, I adore you,
Pray grant me one favour, say where do you dwell."
"Excuse me kind sir, for now I must leave you,
For yonder's the sound of my factory bell,"

"I have land, I have houses, I've adorned them in ivy;
I have gold in my pocket and silver as well,
And if you come with me it's a lady I'll make you
And no more will you hear your factory bell."

With these words she turned and with less she has left me
And all for her sake I'll go wander away,
And in some deep valley where no-one will no me,
I will mourn for the sake of my factory girl.

Another 'THE FACTORY GIRL'

No more shall I work in the factory, greasy up my clothes;
No more shall I work in the factory, with splinters in my toes.

CHORUS: Pity me, my darling; pity me, I say.
Pity me, my darling, and carry me away.

No more shall I hear the bosses say, "Boys, you'd better daulf."
No more shall I hear those bosses say, "Spinners, you'd better clean off."

No more shall I hear the drummer wheels a-rollin' over my head.
When factories are hard at work, I'll be in my bed.

No more shall I hear the whistle blow, to call me up so soon;
No more shall I hear the whistle blow, to call me from my home.

No more shall I see the super come, all dressed up so proud.
For I know I'll marry a country boy, before the year is out.

Blank lines added between verses. --JoeClone, 12-Feb-02.

Hi:

I am looking for a verse that I don't see in your rendition:

It goes:

No more I'll hang my "bottoms" up, no more I'll take them down
No more I'll do this dirty work, I'm leavin' this old town.

I can't tell if they are singing "bottoms"...it's sounds like "bothams"...and this verse doesn't make sense to me...

Any help?

I got this from an Italian compilation album: KELTIKA, just released.

Thanks.

Factory Lad (aka Turning Steel)
Wonderful Harmony Song!

Chorus:
Turning steel, how do you feel?
As in the chuck you spin.
If you felt like me, you'd roll right out,
And never roll back in.

Just worked up a version of Poverty Knock on the P/A which involves the left hand only using just the basic three (1,4,5) chord buttons, and changes button for each and every note - plus a bit of trills and vamp here and there - really bounces when you add the tune on the top! :-)

There is a brilliant song by Ralph McTell called Factory Girl that we include in our concert sets. It always seems to get a good response. Reflects life between dreams and reality (there are always the next days toils waiting).

The song Boab D refers to above is 'Factory' by Bruce Springstein - good version on Mike Harding's 'Bombers Moon'

Early in the morning, factory whistle blows,
Man gets out of bed, puts on his clothes
Goes through the door, walks out in the morning light
That's the work, the working, just the working life

Throught he mansions of fear, through the mansions of pain
See my daddy walking throuigh the factory gates in the rain
Factory takes his hearing, factory takes his pride
That's the work, the working, just the working life

And it's early in the evening factory whistle cries
Men walk through these gates with death in their eyes
And you've just gotta believe it, someone's gonna get hurt tonight
That's the work, the working, just the working life

Early in the morning, factory whistle blows,
Man gets out of bed, puts on his clothes
Goes through the door, walks out in the morning light
That's the work, the working, just the working life

(I think that's right... correst me if not!)

Cheers

FACTORY GIRL

Ralph McTell

Hurrying across the bridge before the siren calls.
This morning she's racing her shadow, all along the factory wall.
Then through the gate, where she will wait in line,
To cross the yard, to clock her card in time,
And under her scarf her hair set in curls,
The day begins for the factory girl.

For a while the girls try to talk, but their voices soon drown in the din.
Their eyes watch their hands do the work, and a new day's rhythm begins.
No change today, like yesterday, the same
But it's dinner soon, then afternoon, then home,
And hurrying home in the fading light
The factory girl is going out tonight.

Her mother says, "Don't be late, you've got to get up again before eight".
"Yes", she cries, but there's joy in her eyes,
As she runs down the path through the gate.

And out on the rainy streets hoping that her night will last.
No whispering palms on the beach for her,
Just the swish of the cars going past.
But she believes no one could feel the same,
Touching and whispering in the rain,
But the rain takes away her beautiful curls.
The night is soon gone for the factory girl.

And hurrying across that bridge before the sirens call.
This morning she's skipping the puddles all along the factory wall.
A starling sings and shakes his wings, she smiles.
Then at the gate, she hesitates, for a while.
Then from inside the gates the sirens roar
And across the yard runs the factory girl.

Hullo all

Madwaff I had heard that this was either a song that Springsteen did but I was unsure if it was his song. But I do now. Seen something related to him whilst looking for the River Detectives and it was mentioned that either he did it or he liked the song I cant remember as it was a wee while ago. And thanks for clarifying this for me as I'm a wee but special and slow sometimes. However a great song no doubt and the RD's do a fine accapella version of it . Not sure if Bruce does it that way as I've never heard him at it but if you can get a hold of the RD's version and give it a wee go I don't think you'll be dissappointed.
