25 Oct 11 - 04:28 AM (#3244363) Subject: Visiting Cecil Sharp House From: Tim Chesterton Hi All: I'm going to be visiting from Canada in late November and it looks like I might get a couple of hours at Cecil Sharp House (that's all! family circumstances etc.). Any advice on the best way for a musician who's very interested in traditional folk music to spend a couple of hours there? |

The cafe is open during the day (not sure about Sunday) and the library is open on weekdays. During the day the building is used by a theatre school and performance spaces are also hired out for rehersal. Check the web site www.efdss.org for evening events. most of which are run by outside promotors. Sharps Folk Club on Tuesday nights is the only real opportunity to sing or play. The building has never functioned as a social centre for folkies in London. |

As Leadfingers says, thios will leave you frustrated and wanting more, but you have the rest of your life to come back. And more and more content is being put online, so you can browse later. |

Re: the Library they might not let you photocopy anything, but a small digital camera will do the job. Email the Library in advance if you want something specific. |

However, do allow yourself extra time to find CSH; the streets are a veritable maze! There is no sound system available on Tuesday evening but it's really not needed; there is a sign-up for leading a song but the actual line-up is up to the discretion of the volunteer coordinator.
