(It was almost accidental, I got to that scene & I had two main objects, and I thought "where have I seen those two things together"... ...so I rearranged the perspective to match more closely...) |

14 Nov 11 - 11:56 AM (#3256841) Subject: RE: Dreadful Date john f weldon From: GUEST,999 OK, John. The prize (for me) would be a visit next time you get to Ormstown. I've been a fan of yours ever since I first saw this great vignette on CBC television many years ago. And regarding 'Dreadful Date': Hard for me to miss, John. He's one of my favourite Canadian painters. |

14 Nov 11 - 06:33 PM (#3257096) Subject: RE: Dreadful Date john f weldon From: GUEST,999 Hi, Q. Not only talent, but a great sense of humour and wonderful wit. "The Log Driver's Waltz, 1979, was directed by John Weldon. The animation is set to the Mountain City Four/Kate and Anna McGarrigle recording of the song. The film is one of the most-requested in the entire collection of the National Film Board. The NFB also produced a French version of the film. The Log Driver's Waltz is available for viewing on the National Film Board's website. Occasionally, The Log Driver's Waltz appears on Canadian channels like CBC Television as filler between two programs, much like Heritage Minutes." John won a prestigious award for his work on that (John, help me out here because I can't recall the name of the darned award) and the song with animation became a classic in Canada almost overnight. You can see more of his work at that the following link: http://www.nfb.ca/explore-by/director/John-Weldon/ |

14 Nov 11 - 06:38 PM (#3257099) Subject: RE: Dreadful Date john f weldon From: GUEST,999 PS John is somewhat modest, and getting him to talk about himself is like pulling teeth. Took me seven coolers (lemon/vodka before he opened up a little). He had a few, too. |

15 Nov 11 - 10:24 AM (#3257453) Subject: RE: Dreadful Date john f weldon From: GUEST,john f weldon Actually, the most prestigious award I ever got was not for Loggie but for this, somewhat darker film... (Oscar 1979)... (I see they've put a warning label on it!!) Special D ...but Loggie is the one most people remember, it got played a lot & was by far my most wholesome film. Most of my humour is a tad grim. |
