'A Priest was being honoured at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. A leading local politician and member of the congregation was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner. However, he was delayed, so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited:

'I got my first impression of the parish from the first confession I heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it. He had taken money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his boss's wife, used illegal drugs and gave VD to his girlfriend. I was appalled. But as the days went on, I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.'

Just as the Priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies at being late. He immediately began to make the presentation and gave his talk: "I'll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived," said the politician. "In fact, I had the honour of being the first person to go to him for confession."'

Moral: Never, never, never be late.

You know, I've always been a little forgetful. So I have strategies such as having multiple tabs on my browser and not closing the original thread before I have googled it. May help you, may not. Hope I didn't spoil your joke.

Oh heck, I spent a good few minutes yesterday trying to remember how to spell the name of our village on a form I was filling in. Was it a 'y' in the middle, or an 'i'? I wrote it both ways, and rejected the one that looked wrong. This is getting serious! Does it happen to all oldies, or do some retain their faculties?

Eliza... "Does it happen to all oldies, or do some retain their faculties?"

Yes, maybe, maybe not. I think. I dunno.

I notice it most when I walk to somewhere to get something.
Now what was it that I came for?

Hint for next time. If I say out load "I need a claw hammer' (whatever) I can then usually remember hearing what I said!

"Hint for next time. If I say out load "I need a claw hammer' (whatever) I can then usually remember hearing what I said!"

Thanks for nothin' Gurney. I just did that and came back with a claw hammer. I was going for a bowl of cornflakes.

Hard to eat yer cornflakes and beer with a claw hammer innit?

12 Nov 11 - 05:03 PM (#3255814)
Subject: RE: BS: HELP old age strikes again
From: Gurney

OK, I'm solution-oriented.
Go to the shed, bring back a saw and a drill, and a 12mm long-series spur-bit. Cut off the hammerhead, drill out the haft centrally, and when you finally remember your cornflakes, then you can suck them up through the tube you have fabricated!

999, why on earth did did you say "Claw hammer" when you wanted a '(whatever)'?

Proofread, Gurney. Loud.

Do you get a better degree of warpedness with advancing years? mine seems to have got better/worse ( you choose ) with age, or is it just experience?

"For the last 7 months I thought I had a dysfunctional view finder on my camera .... this week I had my eye's checked .... I'm almost blind in my left eye .... it's a cataract."

My wife had a cateract removed from one eye last month - now good as new, and is due to have the other removed in two weeks. Thank goodness we choose to pay for private medical insurance.

Best wishes to your wife, Bonzo. Hope the second op is successful too. We paid for my husband's aged uncle in Ivory Coast to go over to Mali and have his cataracts removed. (There's a very good clinic there) We cried when we heard he'd actually DANCED for joy when they took the bandage off the first eye and he saw. He'd been blind for many years.
