Here's Bruce singing 'The Blackest Crow' with Julie Fowlis on 'Transatlantic Sessions'

Lovely, apart from the lap steel. I love lap steel don't get me wrong, but it seems to get into every number on the Transatlantic Sessions, and it doesn't go with absolutely everything.

by the way, John, that ain't a lap steel Jerry Douglas is playing....in my book it's a dobro (though maybe not a 'Dobro' dobro).

Here's another lovely song from the T Sessions featuring Julie Fowlis and Bruce....a lap steel features in this one though

Bothan Airigh Am Braigh Raithneach

Yes it is a dobro, I ralised after I posted that. he does play lap steel too.
I was talking about this last night at our Wednesday session, and Dave made a very cogent point. When it's used to accompany songs, particularly Scots songs when the wording is fairly precise, and the notes are important, especially in reel or Strathspey mode. The lapsteel/dobro is out of place, as it's never on a constant pitch, always wavering around like a bad case of the vibratos.

Still plenty of space for this one....it's also the last night of Bruce's tour!

Come along and help give him a good send-off!

He was in great form at the Rodewald Suite in Liverpool tonight; a one-man old time string band! A lovely range of songs and tunes from a very genial man - it was a real pleasure to listen to him play.
