Below is a link to Youtube with a performance by Archie Fisher; however, it doesn't sound like Archie to me.

Is that you Archie?

Yes. It is from the Trailer album "The Fate o' Charlie: Songs of the Jacobite Rebellions" by Archie Fisher, Barbara Dickson, and John MacKinnon.

"Fate O'Charlie" was released in 1969, I believe. That's him, OK.

I just can't hear Archie in there!
If this indeed Archie, it sounds - to me - as if he's probably impersonating another singer's vocal style, mannerism etc.
Could that possibly be the case?

I am with Tunesmith. That sounds like someone trying to sound like Archie.

It sounds like Archie doing a McColl impression! (not unknown)

Yes, I could hear McColl in there!
I wonder if Archie was going through a "McColl" phase?

I've listened to the recording again, and I think it's way the word "Geordie" is pronounced at the end of the verses which really confuses me.
That's not the way Archie would pronounce it.
Indeed, I've got to the point where, even if Archie came on and said that it was indeed him, I would believe it!

Not sure how that was recorded - via a mic placed near the speakers (?). It sounds as if the turntable may be running a little slow compared to my memory of the vinyl. Which may explain the oddness.

I'll dig it out and play mine for comparison when I can fight through the rubbish in my spare room.

Yes, it does sound like Arcie doing a piss take on MacColl's phoney Scottish accent .

If that last poster was indeed Archie, would he shed some light on the fact that, for a number of posters, it doesn't sound like him!

Poor transcription from a 42-year-old record? Or you just haven't listened to enough Archie Fisher (were such a thing even possible)?
