As an old Illini grad, I would not have rooted for either, but I somehow feel that Joe Paterno was blindsided and hope his players can bounce back from the defeat by Nebraska.
The old Big Ten, Southwest Conference, etc., seem to be changing composition; I can't keep up anymore.

A big game today ! Appalachian State vs. Elon.

OK State lost last night. Looks like it may be a rematch of LSU and Alabama for the BCS championship.

It won't be Clemson. They are getting their butts kicked.

I owe Max this year. Ohio State's problems are well documented and pretty stupid as well. But in the aftermath of Penn State they are so trivial as to be non-existent. Penn State has a long road back after a scandal that went to the core of the university. The way back will be long and I for one was glad to see them play pretty well today. The only reason they were not favored was the scandal as they are certainly above us in both their record and their ranking this year.

I was happy also to see that the always large home crowd in the shoe did not act like assholes (except for the usual handful) as both teams played with the respect of the other. I know it ain't always a popular stance, but I think sport has its place in this country and these two teams showed something about that today.

Max.....Your year.......Kick at will!!!! (Somebody get me a cup---QUICK!)

Arkansas vs LSU!
maybe the biggest game left in the year.

If Arkansas wins and Alabama wins tomorrow there will be a lot of controversy over the BCS. As well there should be. Its a silly system.

Arkansas just scored on LSU's 4th fumble of the year!

Razorbacks 14 - Tigers 0

Wow!

The BCS system will always end up with controversial selections. I agree, it should be scrapped.

I remember New Year's Day bowl games, from my childhood in the 1930s, following the family turkey and pumpkin pie.

Those were the days of clear channel radio, and in New Mexico we were able to listen to the Rosebowl without too much static.
The best west coast team faced a selection from the east or south; it was the top game in our minds and no selection system in the way. Of course the invited team may have had equals, but the invitee seemed to have general approval.

Wasn't it PAC 10, vs Big 10 champions?

Pac Ten vs. Big Ten came later in life, long after Sammy Baugh (All-American 1935) and the like. The Big Ten and the Pac Ten signed to meet first in 1947.
Looking it up, the BCS started up in 1998.
A playoff system would be fair, but impossible to set up.

Too bad the top 4 can't have a playoff. That would be something to see.
(And Va. Tech?)
