Good to hear he started with Bert Weedon's "Play In A Day" - just like the rest of us. Also very interesting to hear that he had classical lessons - he said himself that this gave him a real boost. If ever there was such a thing as a National Treasure in the UK, Richard Thompson is it. Some people, apparently, don't "get" him. Their loss. |

A video version of Play in a Day is available on his website. The website notes that Mark Knopler credits Play in A Day as a major influence. Elsewhere Knopfler has credited Richard Thompson as his other mentor. |

A blue one - I couldn't make head nor tail of it. Lots of dots on a fret diagram. It had a picture of Alma Cogan in it. |

John Pearce arrived on the scene much later than Weedon (I think he was only 20 when the book of the series came out) but shuffled off this mortal coil years ago - but not before leaving another useful legacy. Thanks for the link George, but when i went to the website I couldn't see any episode featuring Richard Thompson. If you can give me any more info, I'll make a clickable link direct to the relevant episode. |

I love this series, when I get to hear it, because even if its someone you dont know, like the Franz Ferdinand guitarist they had on monday, its always interesting - to a guitarist at least. |
