Any news of Noel Murphy?

I was down in Brighton this afternoon, watching a couple of mates playing and got into conversation with another punter about Noel Murphy. We had both known Noel on the London folk club scene in the late 60s and early 70s (Noel & Shaggis), and she mentioned that Noel, now living in Cornwall, is very unwell.

I wondered if anyone on Mudcat had been in contact with Noel recently. If he is ill, I know several people who would like to send him a collective "get better, Noel" message.

Well he is in Cornwall, has been for years. I heard he had heart problems and had retired from singing, but that was some time back
His web page hasn't chenged in years.

Leadfingers might know as he gigged with him. Isn't it Newlyn Noel lives at?

I work with Noel's wife Sue, and while it's true he has had a few problems with his ticker he isn't too bad at the moment. I'll tell Sue that people have been asking about him.

Used to go to all his gigs in West London in the 70s. Have lots of his music and many memories of a great night with great entertainment.

Wishing him good health and thanks for the memories

Yes - all the very best to Noel from me as well - hope this gets to him.

Memories of Clanfolk (BBC Folk Club) days, when Pete Charlton was running it - Noel was always very popular and gave us a great evening.

Nyaaaah!

Sadly Noel's wife Sue died about 3 weeks ago, and I'd like to send my condolences to both him, and Siobhan their daughter.
Noel you still have old friends out there who are thinking of you.

I'm terribly shocked and saddened to hear about Sue. I knew Noel fairly well when he lived in Whitton in the 70s. He was terrifically supportive to me when I was getting started in playing Irish music (as he was with many young musicians). Thoughts and prayers for Noel, Siobhan and his older daughter, Jennifer. Haven't seen or heard from Noel in nearly 20 years. As I recall, Sue was only a fairly young woman. Such a shock.
