06 Dec 11 - 06:01 PM (#3269490) Subject: New website - songs from Gloucestershire From: Tradsinger A group of us in Gloucestershire have got together for a project to put all the collected songs in the county on one website. We realise that this is a big venture and so after Christmas we are going to apply for serious funding to get the project under way. In the meantime, we have put up a pilot site at www.gloschristmas.com with about 20 Christmas songs from Gloucestershire. The site includes sound clips of archive and contemporary recordings, background notes on the songs, the singers and the context, plus full transcriptions of the songs. along with MIDI files for those who can't read music. There are also background studies on mummers, wassailing and other traditions. As I said, this is a pilot site, which hopefully will lead to a bigger programme to put the hundreds of songs collected in Gloucestershire onto one site. Please have a look and we (the group that put the site together) would welcome comments and suggestions. Tradsinger [link fixed by MudElf} |

07 Dec 11 - 08:26 AM (#3269769) Subject: RE: New website - songs from Gloucestershire From: Tradsinger Hello Dave: There certainly are some recordings of source singers on the site - Billy Buckingham, Lem Hayward, Dick Parsons, Harry Aldrich, Betty Aldridge, Harry Boucher, the Stevens family, plus several links through to Roy Palmer's and Nick & Mally Dow's collecting on the British Library Sound Archive website. Try the search on the home page and you will find them, or go to the respective song and follow the links to Archive recording. Tradsinger |
