BS: Kendall's latest scare

07 Dec 11 - 02:54 PM (#3269965)
Subject: BS: Kendall's latest scare
From: kendall

Yesterday I was having little pains around my heart, so I went to my Cardiologist this morning and they told me that my heart enzymes were elevated. They sent me to the ER at Maine Medical center and they did more tests, one nurse said I probably had a heart attack.
Two and a half hours later they told me the tests were all normal and it was :Chest wall pain." Whatever that is.

Now I have to have a stress test. I'd say I just had one!

Just concentrate on that fact that they said the tests were all normal.

Sounds to me like pleurisy, Capt'n... In other words, pain on the chest wall... Ya' see you have this stuff that lubricates your lungs and keeps you breathing normal... When you get inflammation in there it's painful...

Sometimes people also have little air sacks in the outside of the lungs called "blebs" that will pop and cause pain, too...

If the heart is fine then it's more than likely one of those two common and benign conditions...

It will pass quickly...

Now if it gets worse and nothing relieves it you may be having a spontaneous phenom-thorax (collapsed lung) which could require a chest tube and a couple days flirting with nurses...

BTW, I've had all three and have several blebs which can be seen on x-rays... No biggie...

Half a pint of Scotch and you'll be good as new...

From: katlaughing

I had pleurisy once when I was in my 20s. It hurt like hell! They made me cough a lot prevent it going to pneumonia.

Mayo says this about chest wall pain:

One of the most common varieties of harmless chest pain is chest wall pain. One kind of chest wall pain is costochondritis. It causes pain and tenderness in and around the cartilage that connects your ribs to your breastbone (sternum).

In costochondritis, pressing on a few points along the edge of your sternum often results in considerable tenderness in those small areas. If the pressure of a finger causes similar chest pain, it's unlikely that a serious condition, such as a heart attack, is the cause of your chest pain.

hi Kendal

Glad to hear that you are OK.

"Chest wall pain" is fairly common - a couple of years ago I had symptoms like you describe and after many tests the consultant declared it to be " nothing more than chest wall pain". When I asked him what that was he said that it is merely muscle pain".

Since then I get it it now and again and have worked out that it could be caused by playing my guitar !!

These days I don't play regularly and if I pick it up after some time away from [playing I find I get this " muscular pain" in the left side of my chest.- I play right-handed..

Anyone else find this ???

Cheers

I got a note from your llama and he misses you. You're probably just feeling the stress from the guilt you have in trying to break it off with him.   With your hydraulic package working it should not require much else on your part. Your chest pains would be relieved and the llama would be satisfied.

Today, my doc said that word we ALL wanna hear when we talk with the doc... it's benign. Then, more good news... no need to take it out unless it get's in your "way".

I was "extra" releived because he was still talking in the hall with the second last patient before me after his consultation about the next step in treating his cancer and I overheard it.

I was a tad nervous because this, I believe the proper medical term is "Thing", is near the tumour that was removed about 6 years ago. Even though it's about the size of a split pea and dangly, it's looks nasty and the dental hygenist that found it made a big deal about it and wanted the dentist/oral surgeon to examine it. I asked if there woukd be a fee. Yes, of course, an examination fee. I said I would consult my family doc. She said my doc would send me back to them. She is new, I am not.

Turns out these Things are common in middle aged and elderly people.

Oh... yeah... I didn't get the xrays the little girl said I should have and I didn't initial my chart beside where she wrote that I refused the xrays as she requested. Then, she told me I should be using these little brushes between my teeth and tried to sell me some for twice what ya can buy em for at various stores. I've been gettin em free for years. The receptionist(s) asked me about her service and I could tell they had the same opinion as me. I'll be talkin to Howie about her.

Thread drift? Ya. But I am cooking bacon and sausages for the freezer and don't have a lot else to do. >;-)

To some people it sounds like, as the pain extends from deep in the chest wall toward the outside it is turning from hypochondria into hyper chondria ;)

but seriously

Don't consider any questions a burden here Kendall.

Know thyself. A very deep and profound concept of life.

But when you're not sure, you ask directions.
BS alarms will guide you from there.

I posted 3 ailments here and was astounded at the insights I received from people who knew and experienced the same thing. Not only that, the ailments have reamained at bay as though I made antibodies. (Remember Coldfinger?)
I have always believed that a conscious understanding is helpful for some conditions to be vitalized and freed to let go the unconscious mind to do the virtually impossible things [that our conscious minds can not do] to heal or naturally transition.

But on the other hand...

The old adage, don't dig too deep above the septic system works well too. Un needed surgury or medicine can be a bad thing.

What scares me lately involves pedestrians at 5:30PM wearing all black in the pitch dark and crossing the street while talking on their phone in the rain. Are these people fearless or foolish?

Did your granny also favor the "physic?"   Just wondering how well known that word is. Is it an older rural/mountain thing or more universal? A common old folks expression when I was a kid:

"Is that child feelin' poorly? Tell ya'... all they need is a good physic."

This was then followed by instruction on how to prepare some vile, foamy, liquid that said "child" would have to either gag down the throat or take up the ass...........about a toss-up in terms of the unpleasantness rating about 9.8 on the Ohmygawdyerfuckingkillingme Meter.

Spaw - she did indeed refer to the Physic.
She favored 2 kinds: California Syrup of Figs, or Castor Oil.
Syrup of Figs was much easier to take.
A few other Grannyisms - never sit on a cold stone wall, you'll get the piles; never sit with your back to the fire, you'll melt your lungs; never eat too much sugar, it'll give you worms.
For boils or deep splinters, she always used a hot bread poultice.

She loved Bing Crosby's singing, but refused to believe that a grown man could be called "Bing", so she always called him "Ben" Crosby.

Jed and Kendall, I'm not familiar with Red Liquor. What is it?

It's also called "red whiskey" because after the (un)Civil War the US required that all whiskey be aged in charred casks. That is, all whiskey upon which the tax had been paid...so you had "white whiskey" and "red whiskey." "White whiskey" would get you arrested or at least your run would be taken away by the dag-slab Revenooers or the local sheriff, if you didn't pay him enough.

And there's "hand brand" alcohol. Same deal, pretty much.

My great uncle "Peg Leg" Henry was hauling a toboggan with cargo covered with a blanket past the cop shop in the 30s. A very large Irish (both Canucks of Irish descent) cop was standing on the steps and asked what the poor little old Irish had on the toboggan.

"25 gallons of hand brand alcohol ya big dumb SOB." The cop laughed and said, "Ya crazy bugger! I'd help ya haul it but I gotta stay here. Careful ya don't slip and fall."

That's exactly what he had on the toboggan.

He was a character, to say the least. I got a lot more stories.

Bath Ironworks Bath Maine.
A man I will not name worked there for 30 years and he burned wood, so they allowed him to take home scraps of wood for his stove.
Every night when his shift was done he would go out the gate with a wheelbarrow full of wood, and the guards would poke through it looking for stolen parts and such. Never did find anything, so when he retired, he walked out the gate without any wood. One of the guards called him over and said, "I know you have been stealing from the yard, and if you will tell me, I won't say a word to anyone. What have you been stealing"?
Man said, "Wheelbarrows."

What kind of wheelbarrows? What quality of wheelbarrow? How much was he getting for each one and did he have a regular madket? I mean if he wound up with a lot of cheap, crummy, barrows then he would have been stupid to do it all those years.

If he had an outlet for them then was the outlet into taking any of the wheelbarrows or did the overall quality make a difference? And what about size? Seems to me there are a lot of unanswered variables in the story Kendall.................

Or was that some kinda' piss-poor, lame-ass, attempt at a joke? I mean if so you don't have to answer all of the questions and I'll understand and say hahaha. I mean if it was a joke type thing.........but if it wasn't...........

He was probably smuggling stolen wheelbarrows into Canada, where they'll buy anything with a wheel. It's a little-known fact that wheels are forbidden in Canada under The Official Secrets Act. Wheels used in Canada must be square, not round, because TOSA sets the value of pi at 3.00 (for convenience in working problems). Any Canadian with a round wheel can be arrested and jailed indefinitely without trial.

Don't tell anyone I told you all this.

Spaw, get back on your freekin meds!

To analyze a joke to see why it's funny is like dissecting a frog to see why it jumps. You may learn something in the process, but it tends to destroy the subject.

Speaking chasing, I'd sure hate to be Kendall when Jacqui gets back. She's gonna clobber him and kiss him at the same time. Poor woman can't turn her back for a moment...!

So, if I understand this correctly, the Capt'n is now messin' around with both a frog and a llama???

Good grief, man... Have you no shame???

Sometimes I get what I have felt was a phlegm blockage in a small bronchial branch in the Autumn/Winter. If coughing does not clear it immediately, I hydrate to the max and it works its way out. Hurts like the dickens but enough Oxygen seems to reach past the blockage to keep the upstream branches alive. I seems like Oxygen reaches the upstream tissues via capillaries but probably not as much as the tissues are used to with direct contact with oxygen with each breath. If the pain persists beyond 3 days I get worried but then it passes soon after.

Drinking once again is the cure. Water or juice lubes the system and thins any phelgm while alcohol would probably dehydrate.

A bleb or blemy sounds dreadful but I may have had one without knowing it.

Speaking of meds, The stimulant drugs for Attention deficit syndrome/disorder is now cleared for use by adults, there is no danger to the adult heart afterall.

When you ask your doctor about this, simply become distracted before eventually asking for a prescription.

I phoned the Cap'n today - caught him having lunch with a very attractive lady friend. She told me he's behaving himself (probably in his usual manner......).

No Spaw - not the Llama this time!

Don't give us all a shock, Captain! Jacqui, the strain of you being away is obviously too much for him :-)

Not to worry folks, I'm adjusting quite well.
Jacqui, why did you leave that inflatable sheep where I was sure to see it? Is it some sort of decoy?

Tut tut, Kendall! Take credit from others, even false (you said it), whenever you can. When getting run out of town, get in front and make it seem you are leading a parade. If that parade is adoring females, so be it.

Whew!!!

I hate to think that the Capt'n thinks that I would be envious of his little predicament... BTW, I am curious as to how the frog fits into the equation... But more curious to know when the Capt'n will introduce a chicken to the rest of the gang...

No matter... Jacqui needs to come home quick... It's obvious that the Capt'n needs adult supervision...
