Autoharps/Reality Check

OK, so I have these two nice Oscar Schmidt harps. One 15 and one 21. I really meant to learn the autoharp. But realistically speaking, I have enough with just the 6 & 12 string guitars. So, in the spirit of decluttering, I thought I would find "good homes" for them.

Should I do the QBids or eBay thing? Should I consign them to Elderly? Or should I shamelessly try to sell them right here? Or...does someone want to try to persuade me to see the "error of my ways" and to keep them? Thanks for listening.

Saul

Donate them to your Temple and take a tax deduction for the current list price.

Good autoharps sell for about $50 if anybody is interested at all. Sorry 'bout thadt.

Funny I just dug mine out, and played it, for the first time since October

Keep them! Or the 15 bar, at least.
I have a 15 bar Oscar which spends most of its time in the box while I play several other instruments, but it's always there when I need it for something special and it hardly ever goes out of tune. You don't have to be an expert to make it sound good. It helps if you have a group/session where they play in one of your keys, so you can just quietly strum along until you find you've mastered your harp. If you play guitar, then you already understand chords and keys which makes it much easier. Then you can venture out a bit and go solo with confidence.
Don't sell.

Oh, I dunno, I might want a 21... if I could get it real reasonably. It would matter if it's spruce or ply though, and how worn the felts are.... and if it has a case.... and a PICKUP would be needed....

If it ain't been played much like saul says, the felts oughta be ok... (I talked to saulgoldie at the Getaway, and he really did seem more into guitar.)

I'd get it myself, but I have two 21s and two 15s and a mini-5 and an old Zimmerman with shifters....and a couple odd ones....

Send me a PM with some more info on the models and prices and I'll let you know if I'm interested. I can still access my PM's.

Keep at least one. You never know when you'll need one!
I was once asked to do the music for a pantomime, and the opening number was "Do You Believe in Magic" by Loving Spoonful. To get the right sound for the intro chords, I played around with string gauges, different pickups, plectrum thickness and amp settings for weeks. I ended up by converting a Hofner 175 (one of the red vinyl covered, strat-shaped, ones) just to play that song.
I'd nearly got it right when I happened to see a video of the band playing that song.
John Sebastian was playing an electric autoharp.
Bother!
Cheers
Dave

PS
I've still got the guitar, though I've never played "Do You Believe.." in public since. You never know when I might need it!

If you love them, set them free!
