Hi lovers of Dylan - looking for something for your grandkids? Check this youtube clip from The Starbugs release, "Kids Sing Bob Dylan"

A New Zealand studio, www.ucamusic.com, has produced a CD called Kids Sing Bob Dylan

The Starbugs are: Jessie Hillel, Sarah Whitaker, Roisin Anderson, Ben Anderson, Rebecca Jenkins

These Bob Dylan classics have been re-pitched to suit children's voices. This outstanding album will encourage any child to join in.

I love it. I'm considering getting this for my wife who's a music teacher. You don't suppose they could ship by Christmas?

That is incredible. The little girl who's singing the lead on Tambourine Man is doing it superbly. Matter of fact, I've never heard it done better by anyone. I will definitely buy that CD.

Amen to that, LH. I put this up on FB, after having seen it on Freda's FB page. That wee'un absolutely gets the lyric, and interprets it beautifully. The primary harmony voice girl is wonderful as well. And the little blonde girl standing barefoot on the milk crate just made me laugh out loud. Wonderful work by all involved!

All the best,

Mick

As the official thread Grinch, I have to say a couple of things about the clip.

First, the kids do a great job covering the Byrds' more melodic version of Tambourine Man, so it's once-removed from Bob Dylan. And second, there is the vaguest whiff of American Idol phrasing in the vocals of the little tykes, sort of a Mariah Carey lilt to all of their voices. This is more a sign of the times than a weakness in the performance, I think. Unfortunately, little kids with great voices, like the aforementioned melody singer in the clip, grow up listening to the current pop crop and not from-the-soul singers like Joan Baez, Judy Collins or even Natalie Merchant or Gillian Welch.

But...I am nitpicking. It's great to hear kids of that age going after songs of my own youth in such an energetic fashion. More power to them!

The Starbugs singing Mr Tambourine Man sound like Nanci Grifith, Iain Matthews, and Tom Russell singing Wall of Death.

They are indeed doing an arrangement more like that done by the Byrds than like Dylan's version. I imagine the record producer made that decision. The lead vocal, though, is impeccable...and gives far more effective meaning to the lyrics than the Byrds managed, in my opinion.

Harrumph!

I said I was the Grinch in this deal...Don't get me wrong, I love them, and she sings way better than McGuinn, still...

The producer is a friend of mine from many years ago, Radha Sahar. She's a very talented woman.
