BS: Amusing misnomers..... some on Ebay.

It always amuses me when I run across an advert.. especially on Ebay for something which is misnamed.. such as:- 'Crocodile Shoes'.....'crocodile handbag' etc ( never seen a croc wearing or carrying such things)....... Also 'Elephants playing cards'..... Animals playing cards........ There are a lot of Whiskies that play cards apparently......... Maybe you have seen some amusing ones to add to these. Best wishes, Mike.

Back in New Zealand I once saw a catalogue for garden gnomes that included "Gnome mates (with dog)".

I recall a newspaper advert for a winch... 8000 pound truck wench. Ya'd need a big truck.

Is it a misnomer if it is easily understood?
"Crocodile" shoes doesn't have to be written "shoes made of crocodile leather" to be understandable. Moreover, easier to find in catalogue listings and indexes.

The way to find real bargains on ebay is to look for misspellings which cause errors in classification. People tend not to bid on what they cannot find.

Q... I guess we all know that.... maybe understandable but it is still a misnomer:-
We understand these I guess but it doesn't make them correct;;;; Car wanted for a woman with seven seats...... Pen wanted by male secretary with 14 ct nib........ etc etc....

I'm more amused by the descriptions offered by people who obviously know nothing about whatever it is they're trying to sell. Some of the descriptions and comments offered by mon-musicians who are trying to flip guitars they've bought at yard-sales are hilarious.

Sign seen by Himself at a warehouse-type shop selling all the requirements (probably more than required, if the truth be known) for parents of babies:

"Big Baby Sale!"

What if one only needs a small baby?

Cheers

'Rare' to describe an article that appears less than three times in a list of 50.
'Awesome' to mean slightly above average.

I always smile at the Giant Pet Store. What do they sell? Blue Whales?
