It's pretty background music with a faintly early music feel to it. and the worst you could say about it is "inoffensive". I also don't see the need to be so aggressive towards EmmaHartley. Why take the trouble to read and then more trouble to comment? What happened to the live-and-let-live attitudes so beloved among folkies? Hope she won't stay away from Mudcat because of the unpleasantness aimed at her. I think she's an enhancement here - intelligent and well-informed - whether you happen to agree with her tastes or not. For the record, I like Glamour Cave. I follow Emma on Twitter too. I would do the same - in fact I have. I do wish, though she would do a little more than just post a link to her blog with maybe a one liner comment. Perhaps participate in the ensuing discussion. As far as Medieval Baebes are concerned they seem to be an early music equivalent of Celtic Woman, which is fine. The music is pleasant as are the arrangements, though they seem to mostly use modern instruments rather than early style ones. Even their recorders are Baroque style. I would have expected them to have used instruments based on Renaissance originals. Also their stage shows seem to be as much about the visual as they are about the music. There is clearly a market for that and I suspect much of their audience would probably run a mile from a genuine early music concert. However if some, as a result of seeing them, are then prompted to find out more and to seek out the real thing that would be great. |

Lots of folks have their own themed PermaThreads on here and it's a great way of letting those who are interested follow, and those who aren't ignore and bypass. I'd wondered about the promotional element for the blog too, but don't have a problem with it. A lot of folks do that, and what harm? It's a useful way of getting news out to an audience with kindred interests, which this site is, and it only becomes Spam when repeated or prolonged. The other thing I wondered is if, in the wake of nasty comments, Emma just didn't feel like bothering with further posts. Anyway, IMO a PermaThread is clearly the way to go. |
