01 Jan 12 - 05:06 PM (#3283086) Subject: RE: Good Intent 10th Jan Roger the Chorister From: Richard Bridge And Royston, and Sam. You know Royston's fine tenor and well shaded guitarwork. Sam's occasional (and, I will add, considerate and sensitive) dumbek really adds a dimension, whether or not a bodhran is already providing some rhythm. What we do all has some harmony singing in, but not always with three voices: the other parts coming from guitar and/or mandolin. There are a number of "wall of sound" three part unaccompanied songs. Most of the stuff in our two sets for the 10th is from Child or Roud but there is some that is clearly contemporary and some that is technically not "folk" by virtue of being of known authorship but still even older than me by a large margin. We are planning, since it is quite a small room, to be unamplified, and voices joining in in the right places are encouraged. |
