10 Jan 12 - 09:52 AM (#3288074) Subject: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: GUEST,I was there I've noticed a few people asking for a copy of Peggy Seeger's 2001 'Desert Island Discs', so it's been uploaded on this URL: http://tinyurl.com/6vz3x28 If you too were there, and knew, respected and loved Ewan and Peggy, then be warned: you will cry. If you weren't, then you MIGHT cry; it's optional. And for the rest, who weren't there, and aren't interested, then (pace Douglas Adams) the secret is to keep banging the rocks together. Peace and love. xxx |

10 Jan 12 - 12:39 PM (#3288178) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: Bainbo In fact, worth listening twice - you can hear it here as well, along with a list of the selections. |

10 Jan 12 - 03:37 PM (#3288278) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: Bonnie Shaljean Thank you so much for this, IWT. I'd heard the programme when it first aired, and was impressed then by Peggy's honesty, clarity and warmth. Hearing her once more has highlighted these qualities all over again and given me a wonderful chance to re-acquaint myself with her music. A lovely experience - thank you for thinking of us and sharing it here. |
10 Jan 12 - 04:15 PM (#3288289) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: Bainbo Plagued by self-doubt - one of my many failings - I'm concerned in case I came across as trying to steal your thunder by posting the BBC link. Not at all - I just wanted to provide another gateway. I, too, am grateful you wanted to share the programme |
11 Jan 12 - 05:50 AM (#3288556) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: GUEST,I was there Dear Bainbo, 'self-doubt' isn't a failing, not in this world where unwarranted self-confidence seems to rule. Doubt is one of the steps on the path to wisdom (and no, Ewan didn't say that...) |
11 Jan 12 - 08:01 AM (#3288624) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: GUEST,CJB I would love to hear this clip - but although it downloads and appears to 'play' (moving red bar) it remains silent. All other websites with sound files play OK - so its not my sound card. All attempts to investigate this leads to Facebook. Do I need a Facebook account to hear it? I don't 'do' Facebook out of principle due to their appalling transgression of members' privacy. |
11 Jan 12 - 08:22 AM (#3288644) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: Bonnie Shaljean I listened independently of Facebook (though I do have an account) so I don't think it's that. Try Bainbo's link, which leads to the BBC website - you can listen internationally to their radio iPlayer (though not the TV one) which is what I do, so it does work. Copy-paste this URL and try your luck. (See, Bainbo, no need for those self-doubts after all!) PEGGY SEEGER http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/castaway/546b7d23#p00948mh There are also programmes for: JOAN BAEZ http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/castaway/4142c785#p0093wt3 CHRISTY MOORE http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/castaway/e4a12ba1#b007ptxs and probably a whole raft of others if you search the BBC archive, where they have a big library of downloadable podcasts. I Was There, I hope you will come and Be Here often. Thanks again for this - |
11 Jan 12 - 10:27 AM (#3288733) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: ChrisJBrady Thanks Bonnie. Yes - there's lots of other DIDs there. Hmm - wonder how they got around the copyright of the disc choices they played? I always thought that the re-issues of progs. like the Clitheroe Kid, Navy Lark, etc., had the intro., link, and credit music removed due to the complexities of tracking down all the original musicians for the purpose of paying royalties. |
11 Jan 12 - 10:32 AM (#3288736) Subject: RE: Peggy Seeger, Desert Island Discs From: ChrisJBrady Aha - not all music choices are available. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/desert-island-discs/about/faqs#faq_4 So I wonder what's the point of including or referring to some of the guests? |
