Obit: R.I.P. Martin Lee (January 2012)

Sadly we lost a good friend, Martin Lee, this morning. From Southampton (UK), Martin followed in his brother's footsteps and became a very popular local singer/songwriter latterly with Three's Company. Well known on the 80's Sidmouth scene for gate duties and generally jolly larks, he will be missed by the many that knew him.

Andy - Sorry for your loss.
Would I have known him? The name is not one I remember.

Oh no! Like Andy, I remember Martin from my days in Southampton when I was in a group (Omen) with Martin's older brother Brian. When I first new him he wasn,t even legally old enough to go in the pub (not that that ever stopped him)so he couldn't have been that old. One hesititates to ask the cause of his demise.
Like his brother he was a fine singer with a wide repetoire, a great sense of humour and I for one am pleased to have known him.
My sympathy goes out to all his family. The world and folk music is a duller place without him.

Tim, I expect from Jon's comments above you may remember Martin now. He was very much a quiter performer than Brian in those days, but later blossomed into a fine talent.

How sad. My condolences to all his family. Over the years I have really enjoyed his singing as a member of Threes Company.Condolences to Alison and Mary his partners. I have always looked forward to seeing them at Romsey Beggers Fair each year. Saddly no more. Always nice to talk with and very good singers all.Allan

I'm really very sad about this. He was one of the campsite steward crowd in my early years of Sidmouth and a bench person in the Middle Bar. Not only a great singer but a great sense of humour. We had some really good laughs. Very young to go. I dare ask why even if Jon doesn't.

Love Lynne

Sad news indeed - Martin was a lovely chap, and it was a pleasure to steward with him. He will be very much missed, for his humour and erudition.

I am really sorry to hear of Martins passing. He was a great bloke and always had a good word to say about people. I am sure his songs will live on; My thoughts are with Mary.

R.I.P. Martin. Myself and my family remember Martin from 'Stewards Village' at Sidmouth and from the Middle Bar where many happy times were shared. Our thoughts are with his wife Mary now and also Alison and Pete.

Martin died from pancreatic cancer. I will be attending his funeral today on behalf of Wickham Morris. I remember his singing from the Wollston Folk Club.
