Ok Folks, Manchester isn't technically near St Ives but check is out if St Ives doesn't work out:

There was a lot going on the week I was there in September, but that was the second week of the Festival, so much busier than usual. There's always something going on at The Western Hotel, there may be a singaround or folk club night on Wednesday. Penzance probably has something going on, that's not too far away.

I found quite a lot when I was in the West Country last year - though always seemed to be in the wrong place on the wrong night as we were travelling!

Lots of links here South west folk

Perhaps make contact with a few in the area and they'll know all the other local ones that don't necessarily have a web presence

There's a session in The Star in St. Just on a Monday night. Mostly Irish tunes and a pretty high standard of playing. There is music there on other nights as well.

As well as the session at the Star Inn, which attracts quite a lot of people (good standard too!), there's the Tinners Arms at Zennor and the Gurnards Head, also near Zennor. I live at the other end of Cornwall from this area, which is a hell of a long way, I can tell you! Best ring the venues to check what's on and what nights, as I can't remember!

Hi Steve. This thread brings back nice memories of our visit. I'll pop in for the cup of tea next time. I still have a huge batch of pix from our visit to the Eden Project and lots of other places you - and others - recommended.

Hi, the Western Hotel / Kettle and Wink bar in St Ives has live music most nights... Monday is Mo George's acoustic round the table night - but Mo may be in New Orleans early April so may be quiet... Wednesday is Alan Shepherd's (St Ives poet)St Ives Folk night - invited acts playing 20 minute or so sets but guests welcome to do a set usually... This is not just a folk music night - it's folk as in people ! But plenty of folk music played there and will go down well. Friday is Steve's songwriters night - all original songs and all welcome. Other nights I think different people also run sing around sessions, apart from Saturday which is usually a band... Tuesday night there's a session at the Engine Inn in Cripplesease/Nancledra, a lovely pub...last Friday of the month open mic with a PA there too. Session at the Tinners in Zennor is Thursday nights... Star in St Just already mentioned. The Admiral Benbow in Penzance has a 'proper' folk night every other Wednesday... Sometimes invited acts with an entry charge and sometimes a session. The Godolphin Arms in Marazion has a very informal acoustic jam on Monday nights - and overlooks St Michael's Mount... I'll join forum at some point - I've visited a few times for info and lyrics etc. - but meanwhile hope this helps !
