03 Feb 12 - 02:39 PM (#3301594) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: GUEST,Eliza I live in Norfolk, and we definitely don't want nasty old London up here thank you! I notice a 'town' called Cornwall is also marked. I remember seeing that they'd labelled South America 'South Africa'. Good grief! |

03 Feb 12 - 02:57 PM (#3301609) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: GUEST,999 This is all well and good, but how will it affect traffic? Came across a map years ago (made in a certain country in North America that ain't Canada) in which Prince Edward Island was colour-coded as being part of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton (part of Nova Scotia) was colour-coded as being PEI. I phoned them and they changed it for the following year, including an island in the Great Lakes that they put on the American side of the border. And they assured me they had no intention of taking over Canada by effecting small map changes and hoping we'd all forget. |

03 Feb 12 - 05:15 PM (#3301697) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: Sandra in Sydney I worked in the Library & Information area of an Australian Govt. agency & once received an email from an American research organisation asking for information about - well, they said Australia, but it was really Austrian information they needed. When I wrote back suggesting she tried the equivalent agency in Austria I received back a friendly reply thanking me & saying to contact her if ever I needed any information from them! |

03 Feb 12 - 05:53 PM (#3301720) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: Rusty Dobro I think they actually meant that Londoners have relocated to Norfolk, which is true - it's full of PR executives, film directors, actors, fashion designers etc, with holiday homes. There'll be a congestion charge in Mundesley next. |

03 Feb 12 - 07:30 PM (#3301772) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: JohnInKansas Although the blunder cited was pretty funny, it was corrected fairly quickly. Our local "big university" made grand announcements about creation of a new department dedicated to teaching how to start a business some years back. A TV ad published at the time ran for more than three years, before someone pointed out to them that they had spelled it "The School of Enterpernuership" Nobody knows how long it might have run if someone hadn't told them. (I mentioned it to the then-wife the first time I saw it, the first week the ad ran; but she didn't get it so I figured it wasn't worth telling them right away.) John |

04 Feb 12 - 12:13 PM (#3302085) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: GUEST,Eliza Rusty, that lot wouldn't be seen dead in Mundesley, they're all in Burnham-up-Market and Castle Rising. We went to look round Holt fairly recently, and we ended up giggling, everything in the shops costs hundreds of pounds there. You MUST wear a waxed jacket at the very least to show your face in North Norfolk. |

04 Feb 12 - 09:12 PM (#3302331) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: Joe_F Bill D: Right. All you have to do is be patient. As recently as (I think it was) 14,000 years ago, there was no English Channel and the Thames flowed into the Rhine. Ireland was joined to Britain in two places, and the Irish Sea was an inland lake. |

05 Feb 12 - 05:20 PM (#3302731) Subject: RE: BS: London has relocated... From: GUEST,Eliza Yes, Dave, it would be rather good. At the moment we in Norfolk have to get ourselves down to London in order to find a plane or train abroad. (Norwich to Amsterdam by air is very expensive) I like travelling, but we are a bit far flung up here! |
