05 Feb 12 - 11:37 AM (#3302533) Subject: RE: 5 favorite Cajun songs From: GUEST,999 Long ago there was a thread about this song. I can't recall the thread title, but I think this is new information that could be added to the original thread if or when it ever turns up. Sorry for the thread drift. "Jolie Blonde" This is probably one of the best known Cajun songs ever. While its origins are a bit cloudy, some say that a prisoner wrote this song in the 1920's to tell about a pretty blond woman that left her Cajun lover for another man. Jolie Blonde was originally recorded in 1929 by Breaux Freres. In 1935 it was recorded by The Hackberry Ramblers under it's current name. Since then, the song has been recorded numerous times, by many artists. Jolie Blonde has been called the Cajun National Anthem because of its popularity. The famous Cajun painter George Rodrigue has painted many wonderful paintings of Jolie Blonde, which only adds to the song's appeal. Original Lyrics: 1. Joli Blon, ma chere 'tit fille Gardez donc quoi t'aprés faire Joli Blon, tu croyais Il avait juste toi dedans le pays 2. Eh a ha! Eh a ha! Joli Blon ma 'tit fille criminelle Joli Blon, tu m'as laisse moi tout seul |

There is an interesting site that tracks the evolution of Jolie Blond with vids. I don't do clickies but you can find it at http//:jerileewei.hubpages.com. Just scroll down a bit. |

Possibly my favourite cajun song, along with the Eunice Twostep, Les Flammes D'enfer, Je M'Endors and Bonsoir Moreau. Though that list could include any one of hundreds of others. They are all good. |
