Radriano and I will be performing a program for African American History Month called "Chanteys: The African American and Caribbean Connection," Saturday, February 11, 1 to 2pm. This will be aboard the historic sailing ship Balclutha, berthed at Hyde Street Pier on San Francisco's Fishermans Wharf. No reservations, just pick up your boarding pass for the historic vessels at the Hyde Street Pier ticket booth, located about halfway along the pier: $5 adults, ages 15 and under are free. Free with national park passes.

We'll be singing chanteys from the Georgia Sea Islands, menhaden net hauling chanteys from the Carolinas, rowing chanteys from West Indies whalers, combination Irish/African American chanteys of the 1840s, and more. The choruses are easy to learn, and all are encouraged to sing along.

The program is hosted by the National Park Service at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Information: 447-5000 or http://www.nps.gov/safr.

Darn it, do you have to reset your cookie each time you log on now?

That was me saying, "I think I can make it."
