1902 King Edward and Queen Alexandra Coronation Medal
Half to mudcat, half to autistic kids

The medal was only awarded to people who attended the coronation, or participated in the coronation parade. It was issued in silver to members of the Royal family, foreign dignitaries, senior government officials and service officers involved in the coronation parade. Selected NCOs and other ranks involved in the coronation parade received the medal in bronze.

A unknown total number of medals were issued, including

138 bronze and 8 silver to Australians

I've already bid on it but what is the current market value?

my friend, no idea. One British city made some copies for their people but they were steel and not this one, this one is not a replica it is the real banana. I found one in a museum so I suspect it is pretty rare.

The medal is 42 millimetres in height and 30 millimetres wide.
The medal's obverse side has a profile of King Edward VII and his wife Queen Alexandra.
The reverse side has the date of the coronation ceremony (26 June 1902) below the Royal Cypher.
The military version of the ribbon is dark blue with one central red stripe with white edges on either side.
The civil version of the ribbon is dark blue with red edges and narrow white central stripe.
The police version of the ribbon red with a narrow blue central stripe.
It was designed by Emil Fuchs.

Looking at the original ribbon it is the civil version, most likely a city official involved in the coronation parade. Again absolutely authentic or I will refund in full.

Half of the money from this auction is going to Autistic children so it seems appropriate to post a link here to Dan's wonderful and moving song Flowers on the Moon.

I will make a donation to a charity for Autistic children whether I win this auction or not. Many thanks, Dan for putting the medal in the auction and giving us a chance to bid on it and to contribute to Mudcat at the same time. Many thanks also for your beautiful songs.
