Particularly heart-wrenching to see the man who had a serious hernia, threatening gangrene, yet no operation could be offered as it would cost $20,000. He was pitifully carrying on working to support his family, in terrible pain and distress. Also, even dentistry was unavailable to the poor. Third World? |

I end up thinking of the King of Sicily who was replaced by an angel until he saw the error of his ways. Except of course that he wasn't, but people thought he should be. In those days, those people got to the top by being born in ruling families, and perhaps originally by being the bullies who fought their way to the top.
