I'm an Aussie shark (pronounced "Ozzie shaahk")
The other starts out:
Where does a goanna go
and ends:
Nobody knows where a goanna goes, T. |

From: alison Yep, don't know about the shark one but the goanna one is on a CD by Don Spencer (even got him in the UK doing play school when I was a kid). Good CD for kids.. all the songs are about Aussie animals "Please don't call me a koala bear for I'm not a bear at all" etc. The CD is called "Thumbs up! Australia - Australian animal songs by don spencer It was published by ABC for Kids 1985,88,89,& 93(I know it has a web site.. will try to find it later.) slainte alison |

According to the Oxford Dictionary shark IS pronounced shaahk. i.e. the 'ar' is pronounced as in father. To our ears the consonant 'r' sound in such words as spoken by North Americans & Irish sounds funny. It's supposed to be a vowel modifier.

I learned to speak Austrailian from an English bloke who had lived in Australia for a while, so the accent I learned may have been somewhat filtered. Thanks for the info on Don Spencer! |

From: Jerry Friedman Very amusing to see an Australian justifying his pronunciation from the "Oxford Dictionary", but you left a word out of the dictionary's name. I think the missing word is "Pommy". Jerry Friedman, an American who likes worrrrrds. |
