27 Feb 12 - 04:29 PM (#3314195) Subject: BS: One law for the rich... From: alanabit This incident reportedly took place in November and the woman has not been charged. Indeed, she actually lodged a complaint to the police complaining of harassment. Decide for yourself. Stuff like this frightens me. |

27 Feb 12 - 05:54 PM (#3314233) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: GUEST,999 First, on the remaining video on Youtube of the event, the first two minutes were edited out. The original was 7:10 and the one posted by Alanabit is 5:52. The original shows that the 'photographer' was actually filming the stupidly parked vehicle and the difficulties its placement was causing. Now there is a two minute version on Youtube. She said, "I will say [to the police] you assaulted me." He said, "I haven't touched you!" She said, "I will say it anyway." I think she's a twit (pardon the misspelling). |

27 Feb 12 - 06:12 PM (#3314244) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: JohnInKansas I'm afraid I don't see the connection between the incident and the thread title, although I do understand the difficulty of conveying the real significance of a topic in a headline. Perhaps something referring to "Should stupidity be prosecuted?" might be more suitable? Or maybe we are expected to assume that "shop owner" is synonymous with "rich?" Although the assumption may be questionable, presuming it to be appropriate makes it appropriate (perhaps) to reference Rich people more likely to cheat, research finds which is something we all most certainly have always believed/assumed(?). ??? 27 Feb 12 - 07:54 PM (#3314288) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: gnu In 30 minutes today, walking thru a grocery store, four people walked in front of me when they should not have and then said, "Sorry". In about the same time, later on in the day, five people did the same thing to my 85 year old almost blind mother. Rude and ignorant no mind assholes are a daily occurence these days. Or, should I say "hourly" or "by the minute"? I realize this is small potatoes, but I think it's indicative of all our ills... when people don't the brains to give a care about a little old lady how can they give a fuck about the economy... the wars... the planet... ??? Stunned as me arse and twice as spoiled and selfish. Just wait until I get (more) old and cranky(ier). I'll shove yer grocery carts into the next isle ya nasty little pricks. Ooooo... me nerves. 28 Feb 12 - 04:47 AM (#3314410) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: alanabit John: 999 is right, I should have uploaded the other video, which showed very clearly how arrogantly the woman had parked her car and the enormous inconvenience and disruption which her selfishness was causing to other motorists. Her resentment stemmed from the fact that she regarded it as "interference" when a pedestrian filmed indisputable evidence of her arrogance. By the same token, why can I not walk into her shop, rearrange her displays in a manner more pleasing to myself, and then protest that she is "interfering" if she presents a video to the police? The thread title could have been been better thought out, but I sacrificed precision for brevity. The point I wished to make, was that in spite of her arrogant parking, her bullying behaviour and her threat to lie to the police - all recorded - she was not charged with anything. If you or I had behaved that ignorantly in her shop, we would certainly have faced a magistrates court. I want to know why there is one law for local business people and another for everyone else. I am afraid I could not fit that idea into a thread title. |

28 Feb 12 - 10:43 AM (#3314568) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: jacqui.c Maybe he should have used the phone to call the police and tell them that she was blocking the road and causing a traffic hold up and then filmed the car. this woman obviously didn't give two hoots about anything other than her own immediate concerns and the behaviour shown by both her and her husband would lead one to wish that some action had been taken. To be that stupid, not to know that filming in the street is not illegal and to say on camera that she would lie to the police - you have to be a real numpty to behave that way. As Gnu says, there seem to be many more self centered people around these days and I agree that shops can become real battlegrounds. the same with driving - so many drivers don't obey the rules of the road, let alone show common courtesy to others. |

28 Feb 12 - 04:26 PM (#3314769) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: GUEST,CS Interesting study linked to above. It certainly matches my own experience that working-class people are *generally* better mannered, less pushy and more polite "please, thankyou, sorry" etc. than posher types. Perhaps unthinking rudeness may have something to do with a sense of superiority? I find ASDA a breeze to shop in, while the big Sainsbury's are awful. |

28 Feb 12 - 04:46 PM (#3314779) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: meself "Almost as daft as tossing rocks into a thread you are not interested in, isn't it?" Look, you invited me, along with the rest of the world, into this thread with a misleading title, and, with no explanation, on to a poor-quality video of a petty neighbourhood squabble an ocean and a continent away from me, involving a confrontation between an apparently self-centred and obviously distraught woman and a sanctimonious, vindictive little prick with a camera. Already on youtube there are several hundred pages of vitriol and venom directed at this "fat" woman, along with such useful information as her home address and phone number for those of us who would like to get more involved. Isn't that enough? My point being, that I feel entitled to make a couple of snide remarks on here. But, now I've had my say, I've got it out of my system, and I'll peacefully retire to the upper regions, that is to say, above the line, and leave this thread to run its course without the benefit of my precious input. |

29 Feb 12 - 05:04 AM (#3314964) Subject: RE: BS: One law for the rich... From: GUEST There are a number of viral vids on YouTube that follow equivalent "hoist by his own petard" themes, or which in other words, would never have become so popular if the individual being collectively mocked had quietly gone upon their own way instead of causing a scene. They represent an interesting phenomenon in the internet age, a kind of 'folk' punishment by ridicule and generating general discomfort somewhat akin to the custom of 'rough music'*: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rough_music "Rough music, also known as ran-tan or ran-tanning, is an English folk custom, a practice in which a humiliating and loud public punishment is inflicted upon one or more people who have violated the standards of the rest of the community. [...] Noisy, masked processions were held outside the home of the supposed wrongdoer, involving the cacophonous rattling of bones and cleavers, the ringing of bells, hooting, blowing bull's horns, the banging of frying pans, saucepans, kettles, or other kitchen or barn implements with the intention of creating long-lasting embarrassment to the alleged perpetrator.[3] During a rough music performance, the victim could be displayed upon a pole or donkey (in person or as an effigy), their "crimes" becoming the subject of mime, theatrical performances or recitatives, along with a litany of obscenities and insults." I see there's even a dubsteb version of the Bath Roadrage incident now: Dubstep Bath Here's another well travelled example, which is arguably more funny for the bizarre inclusion of blokes in drag and spiderman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yvU6sifwkI |
